Why Hash Valley?

After nearly a year in the making Hash Valley Winery has finally launched, bringing with it new ways to collect and value NFTs. Created out of a passion for fine wines and an insatiable desire to bring something truly new to the NFT space its also the first collection that lets its owners claim a stake in the protocol by granting privileged control over the two most visible parts of an NFT collection - the artwork and the on-chain revenue.

The How:

Minting

Your very first prompt is to build the winery you want to collect via the interactive portal. Helpful guides along the way give hints as to what the various parameters you select will affect in your fledgling operations.

All wine bottles are generated randomly at harvest time but the Temperate Maritime and Humid Subtropical climates of Amsterdam and Tokyo are more likely to harvest Herbal Dry Red wines with notes of Clay and Cured Meats or Truffle & Forest than the Tropical Maritime or Jungle climates of Borneo and the Amazon which will be more likely to yield the Sweet Tropical Honey notes of a Sweet White or the Fruity Floral of a Dry Rosé.

Caring for your vineyard

Once the first season starts owners will have 1 week to plant their vineyards, one week of watering and one week to harvest. Future seasons will stretch for 12 weeks, slowing down the supply of new bottles coming on to the market.

Watering takes place in a 48 hour loop - 24 hours after planting or watering there is no need to tend to your crops. After that you have 24 hours to water your vineyard to keep it alive this season or your crop will fail. If your vineyard is in Madeira, the Amazon Basin or Borneo the wet rainy climate will keep your vineyard watered for 48 hours after each watering before you need to tend to it again. You can also buy a sprinkler and save yourself the trouble of watering ever again (ok technically they last for 3 years which is lifetime in NFT land anyways).

Once you’ve made it to the final week of the season don’t forget to harvest your vineyard to earn xp and get a fresh new bottle of wine delivered to your Ethereum wallet!

Wine Bottles and The Cellar

…have a lot of unique properties. In addition to their notes, flavors and unique types every bottle has their age tracked in the smart contract. This is a powerful attribute that determines the voting power each token carries in the Council when voting on featured artists (more on this below).

Unlike ETH however, 1 second does not always equal 1 second. Every wine bottle can be staked in the cellar exactly once. While in the cellar bottles will age at an accelerated rate. The maximum amount of time a bottle can stay in the cellar is 360 days. After that it will not age anymore.

While in the cellar, every 30 days the bottle will age proportionally through each of 12 eras going all the way from the Modern era to Astral or Akashic once it has reached the age of the universe.

The cellar is risky though! The longer a bottle is in the cellar the higher the chance it spoils on removal - starting at a 14% chance and going as high as 95%. Never fear however as a spoiled bottle will yield Vinegar, an ERC20 token that can be used to revive spoiled bottles - at a slight premium (3x the amount of vinegar received from a spoiled bottle is required to revive it).

Council

New artworks uploaded to IPFS can be submitted to the council for vote
New artworks uploaded to IPFS can be submitted to the council for vote

The council is where Hash Valley Vintners can vote for new artwork to be featured in the token metadata. A new artwork will be featured for a minimum of 7 days before a another proposal can be created. Whoever submitted the artwork includes their Ethereum address and the Royalty Manager contract assures that the artist’s address becomes the recipient of secondary market royalties while their artwork is featured.

There are separate councils for vineyards and bottles but they both function the same.

Each wine bottle can vote on a proposal once and its age is its voting power. Each proposal is open for 36 hours and if it passes there’s a 12 hour period where anyone can enact the proposal to write the new data to the NFT contract.
