May 2nd, 2022

On November 18, “the 7th China South Korea youth dream micro film exhibition” came to an end at the Beijing yidigang store of CGv studios. Seven short films such as “alien” and “evening wind” stood out from 715 films and won different awards.

China South Korea youth dream micro film exhibition is a cross-border cultural public welfare project hosted by the Chinese people’s Association for friendship with foreign countries and CJ cultural consortium and jointly undertaken by China South Korea Friendship Association, China friendship and peaceful development foundation and CJ (China) Consulting Co., Ltd. The project aims to explore and cultivate young film creators and promote film and television cultural exchanges between China and South Korea. So far, it has been successfully held for six sessions.

The 7th China South Korea youth dream micro film exhibition started from the collection of works in April and lasted three and a half months. A total of 715 micro film works were collected. After the preliminary and final evaluation of the professional jury, the final seven films “alien”, “evening wind”, “puffin”, “after the fog dispersed”, “Huang Zhenzhen’s speech”, “out of the garden” and “playmaster: reasoning game” stood out and won seven awards respectively -- Competition unit: Jury Award, director award, script award, Association for friendship with foreign countries award, CJ dream award and non competition unit: 4DX special award, CGV Popularity Award.

According to the person in charge of the Organizing Committee of the film exhibition, the entries this year have made breakthroughs in script design, film conception, shooting techniques and post production. Many works are true and moving, intuitively express the core socialist values of the new era, and reflect the process of contemporary young people’s pursuit of dreams and efforts to realize them. Among them, the story of the work “alien” is complete, the rhythm is relaxed, the exquisite shooting technique, and the performance of the little actors with both voice and emotion won the unanimous praise of the three judges, and finally won the grand prize of the judges; The work “evening breeze” won the Director Award for its unique narrative style and skilled sense of lens. It also gave a special evaluation to the Korean jury director min Kuidong, who believed that it produced the style of director Hou Xiaoxian; “Puffin”, the winner of the screenplay award, has a compact and coherent plot. It vividly tells a story about family affection, Dilemma and loneliness through the “unusual” small things in the trivial daily life between mother and daughter.

As a micro film event created by China and South Korea, the China South Korea youth dream micro film exhibition has been actively participated by a large number of Chinese and South Korean young filmmakers and assisted by many well-known directors and stars since it was held in 2014. At the award ceremony of the 7th China South Korea youth dream micro film exhibition, director Bauer, as the representative of the evaluation committee, came to the scene and had a cordial exchange with the young directors. Director Baubel said: “the China South Korea youth dream micro film exhibition focuses on young people and has built a platform for continuous growth for excellent young filmmakers. The expression of these young people’s works is not inferior to the production of big screen films. I am very honored to be a judge.” In addition, South Korean directors Kim Sung soo and min Kuidong, who could not be present due to the epidemic, also specially recorded videos as jury members to cheer young filmmakers. Director Kim Sung soo said: “this year, COVID-19 has brought a huge impact to the entire film industry, but on the other hand, for young filmmakers, this is another new opportunity. As long as we carefully observe the changes in the world, constantly think and deliberate, we can make films for future audiences.” Director min Kuidong said: “the current situation of the epidemic is indeed very frustrating. Nevertheless, young directors have never stopped making movies. They express great admiration for this. Every director who seriously devotes himself to creation is worthy of respect and every director should be highly praised.”

Ms. Li Xiqing, as the head of the China Peace Foundation, delivered a speech at the ceremony of promoting the future development of the Chinese society hosted by Ms. Li Xiqing and the president of the CJ foundation. President Park gentai said, “with the COVID-19 sweeping the world, the film festival held as scheduled, let us once again witness the continuous improvement of the enthusiasm, talent and creativity of young filmmakers in China and South Korea. The future belongs to young people, and CJ looks forward to walking with you.” Head min Xiqing also said: “this year, we have seen many high-quality works no less than commercial films. We look forward to meeting works that go out of China, South Korea and even Asia and touch the whole world in the film exhibition as soon as possible, so as to lay a foundation for the development of Asian films.”

It is reported that the award-winning directors of all competition units will not only obtain trophies, bonuses and honors, but also get the opportunity to study in South Korea. However, due to the epidemic, the time of studying in South Korea has not been determined yet. During the week-long training activities, young directors will visit Korean film archives, film post production companies, film shooting sites, face-to-face exchanges with well-known Korean directors, understand the development process of Korean film industry, enrich their professional knowledge, and bring the film exhibition to a perfect conclusion.
