The Chapel of Nossa Senhora do Cabo is located in the parish of Algés, municipality of Oeiras. It is said that it was built by Father António Xavier Ligeiro (who is buried under the main altar), having been completed in 1780, after his death.

The chapel is referenced in 1865 and 1872 in notes, respectively, by Fathers Francisco Figueira and Pinho Leal. However, in both cases, no further information is given about its foundation, appearance or exact location. Given its current general appearance, and its characteristics, it is speculated that the current building was rebuilt after the Lisbon earthquake.

In any case, the chapel at the time of its construction would have a view over Cabo Espichel (today obstructed by modern constructions), where there is also a chapel (the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora do Cabo Espichel) dedicated to Nossa Senhora do Cabo. Given that at the time in Algés a large part of the population would be fishermen, it is likely that the place and the dedication to Nossa do Cabo are somehow linked to the sanctuary in Espichel, still today the target of devotion and annual pilgrimage by sea of the fishermen of Sesimbra , for example.

In 1991, it was restored by the Municipality of Oeiras.
