The historical roots of Quinta dos Aciprestes go deep in time. It takes shape, in its double dimension, rustic and urban, at the end of the 17th century, but its origins stem from the existence of two couples in «Nina Velha», Casal Grande and Meio Casal (or small), who were already perfectly organized in the thirteenth century. In other words, Quinta dos Aciprestes, although it does not show through, has a remarkable historical depth, with its built structure dating back to the end of the 17th century and the rustic to the beginning of the nationality.
The former “Herdade de Ninha de Ribamar” which included the area of the Palácio dos Aciprestes has a very ancient origin (13th century). In the 17th century this property was called “Casal Grande”.

In the 19th century, this property belonged to the Viscount of Rio Seco. During this period, large receptions were held here, attended by the aristocracy of the time.
In the 60s of the 20th century, the palace underwent renovation works. The chapel remains from the original building, formerly dedicated to Nossa Senhora do Rosário, with an altar in polychrome wood and tile panels from the 18th century. In this farmhouse, the structure of an old orchard, a well with a windmill, a tank and a fresh house remain. Around the palace there are small walls covered with single-figure tile from the 18th century.
Currently, the Palácio dos Aciprestes hosts the Marquês de Pombal Foundation, which intervenes in the area of culture, social action, scientific research, plastic arts, music and sport.
