IFA 2021 was cancelled after all
May 1st, 2022

Abstract: Messe Berlin and GfU German consumer electronics association jointly announced on the 19th that this year’s IFA will not hold physical on-site activities in September as originally planned

Exhibition Berlin, the organizer of IFA, the world’s major consumer electronics and home appliances trade exhibition, and GfU German consumer electronics association jointly announced on the 19th that this year’s IFA exhibition will not hold physical on-site activities in September as originally planned.

IFA exhibition in 2020 was held by combining online and offline, reducing the number of physical exhibitors, and was not open to the public.

The organizer said on the 19th that the decision was made after detailed discussion with public health experts and multiple stakeholders. At present, from the rapid emergence of new coronavirus variants (such as South Asia) to the uncertainty of vaccination speed around the world, it will increase uncertainty for exhibitors, media and visitors. Another consideration is that the Berlin exhibition company has earlier transformed some of the exhibition hall into vaccination centers and emergency hospital facilities, but these facilities may continue to be used longer than originally expected.

“Brands and manufacturers across the technology industry are eager to participate in the 2021 Berlin International Consumer Electronics and home appliance brand exhibition. Unfortunately, the latest public health situation poses too many risks to people’s activity plans,” said Kai Hillebrandt, chairman of the supervisory board of GfU Consumer Electronics Association.

It is reported that although the IFA exhibition has been announced to be cancelled, the preparations for the Berlin photography week and shift mobility as its supporting activities continue as planned.

The organizer of IFA exhibition said that it is working with partners in various fields to make all preparations for ifa2022. The IFA exhibition is expected to resume its pre epidemic scale in 2022 and hold a physical exhibition at the Berlin International Exhibition Center.
