Progress report (since the last post, about a month ago):
Since the last post–also the inaugural post to kick off the project–things have been quiet. I’ve mostly been collecting tweets and screen caps, and have had a few conversations with people who have expressed interest in the project.
I joined Atlas Urbium in their Discord server for a great chat about the Shakers, and how we might learn from them to build better decentralized communities in Web 3. They’re doing some great writing on this topic, and publishing frequently on their Mirror page. Check them out here.
In my research for Earthseed DAO, I’m taking a sort of “scrapbook approach”. Two things that I’ve done compulsively for a long time are collecting images, and making lists. I love to collect resources and reference material.
As I write more of these posts, one format I’m thinking about creating and reusing is kind of a more curatorial, “vibes”-sort of post. I’ll use the images and tweets that I’ve collected recently as sort of a show-and-tell, and touchpoint to propose ideas for Earthseed DAO and flesh out the project, piece-by-piece, vibe-by-vibe.
I want a tribe. This tweet is very Earthseed DAO vibes. I’ve been thinking about this tweet all week. It makes me think about how this is the whole point–creating a community that supports each other through every day life events, “to celebrate and build with”, as the poster says.
Honestly, I want to write a whole post about this tweet, and relate it to my experiences in living communally, and to try and make sense about how that might look like for Earthseed DAO. For now, I’ll just stub it here.
The tweet also reminds me of this wholesome moment in particular, from when I lived at The Abode of the Message. It was one of the elder residents birthday iirc.
Some other random things I found recently:
You can follow the account here.
There’s also a Discord we’re starting to invite people to, one-at-a-time. You can message the Earthseed DAO Twitter account, or message me on Twitter, I’m @alexdw5.
We’re working with our friend @blueajo to create a logo/avi for the DAO.
For now, we’re using this image :)
That’s all for now. Soon I’ll write more about how I’m thinking about funding the DAO. I’m going to start applying for some Regen-related grants soon. I also want to write about a theory I have, that memes are a more powerful force than capital.
Enjoy the sunlight 🌞
