Talus x NodeKit: Optimizing Shared Sequencers with Smart Agents

We are thrilled to partner with NodeKit, the composability layer for blockchains. Together, we are leveraging AI smart agents to decentralize shared sequencers and making the transaction ordering workflow more efficient. This partnership paves the way for smarter, more effective rollup frameworks for L2s.

How Talus and NodeKit Fit Together

As it stands, the rollup framework is heavily centralized, with transaction ordering completed by a single node. This means that node runners control what transactions to include and how much to charge.

To solve this, NodeKit is building a shared sequencer L1 called SEQ. It helps rollups decentralize their sequencing by plugging into a decentralized network, leading to higher uptime and censorship resistance.

There is also a massive opportunity for economic specialization, with innovative MEV strategies that redistribute value back to a rollup’s ecosystem. Javelin, the super builder by NodeKit, unlocks atomic execution of cross-rollup transactions. Talus’s smart agents can be used in a Javelin instance to optimize positive economic value associated with transaction ordering, while simultaneously decreasing negative MEV externalities. This will increase the quality of execution across chains and enhance UX substantially.

With the current ordering of transactions, most block builders only think of how much value can be extracted from the current block. Smart agents and AI can be utilized to predict the value of the next block, providing much deeper insight on MEV opportunities. Going beyond the limitations of primitive bots, Talus smart agents can execute more profitable ordering strategies based on the value of future blocks.

What will come out of this partnership?

Through this partnership, Javelin, can communicate with an execution environment about future working orders calculated by a smart agent. Then, the smart agent will be able to better determine the value of future blocks  and discover MEV opportunities. This means much better estimates of how much value can be extracted or mitigated from MEV, depending on the goals of the node operator.

Here’s how it works:

  1. An instance of Javelin integrates a Talus smart agent.

  2. Transactions are submitted to NodeKit for ordering.

  3. The smart agent predicts the correct transaction ordering and routing.

  4. The most efficient/profitable ordering is returned back to rollups for execution.

Rollups can benefit from the enhanced execution quality provided by Talus AI smart agents on Javelin, offering users a smoother transaction experience. These agents help identify positive sum games for MEV and improve fee pricing through efficient ordering. With these improvements, users will experience less harmful MEV extraction, while the chain benefits from useful, non-invasive MEV maximization.

About NodeKit

NodeKit is the composability layer that unlocks synchronous communication between blockchains. This enables disjointed ecosystems and financial markets to be unified, paving the way to mass adoption of blockchain technology. Synchronous communication is achieved through SEQ, the shared sequencer L1, and Javelin, the super builder.
