How To Make Mirror.xyz More Social

Almost every popular application these days has social features. After all, we are social animals. These social features are especially valuable for the creators among us, who need feedback in order to hone their craft, and to engage with and grow their community.

That’s why it seems so odd to me that Mirror has none of these features, it’s entirely one directional. At this point, you almost might as well just run an email newsletter.

Perhaps the Mirror team does not want to spend the resources on building these features, but that is not a problem. Grill.chat, an web3 native chat application, has an iFrame widget that can be integrated into Mirror in just three lines of code, providing a comments section for every article.

I already used these instructions to integrate the iFrame directly into an article, creating this demo that showcases what the integration could look like. Here’s how you can set it up yourself:

  • Write your awesome article.
  • Open the article as a draft.
  • Experiment with the widget (at least click “Start Discussion”).
  • Copy the widget URL and embed it in your article.
  • Publish your finalized article.

  • Provide feedback in the chat on the article.

Making Mirror more social will benefit everyone involved, especially creators, and they can get feedback from and engage with their community, ultimately improving their work and leading to more users minting their posts.

Of course, it would be better to have discussions natively built into the website. Here’s how I imagine it looking:

However, this depends on the Mirror team. If you find this interesting, write to me on X or in the chat on this article!
