MobileCoin Inc. was founded in 2017 by Joshua Goldbard & Shane Glynn. The MobileCoin Foundation is dedicated to guiding development of the MobileCoin protocol and fostering the surrounding ecosystem.
MobileCoin was designed for the integration of crypto payments (using MOB cryptocurrency) into mobile messaging apps like Signal, which serve as non-custodial digital wallets. A user is able to send or receive money to other contacts in less than a second per transaction. Contacts are identified by phone number or user ID, and its designed so that transactions are allowed accross different apps. Users will also be able to send an encrypted message to the recipient of the payment in order to prove its origin.

MobileCoin software is open-source.
MOB is the first carbon negative cryptocurrency.
Not all users are capable of participating in a peer-to-peer (P2P) network, and so a federated approach is used instead.
MobileCoin network is made of nodes and each node is used to serve users.
Nodes do the tasks ill-suited for user clients, like maintaning an expansive ledger and processing payments.
Due to its federated nature, MobileCoin uses the Stellar Consensus Protocol.
A node operator does not have access to its users’ funds and does not learn anything about their balance or transaction history.
All transactions are end-to-end encrypted.
Users can switch phones or reinstall the wallet and maintain access to their funds simply by entering a 4-6 digit PIN.
Non-custodial wallet
In case you don´t wanna have your MobileCoin non-custodial wallet integrated into a secure messaging app like Signal
, you can follow instructions on https://mobilecoin.com/beta to install a non-custodial MobileCoin mobile wallet, or here as for a desktop wallet.
To get your MOB wallet address on Signal, go to Settings — Payments — Add funds.
