Understanding zkSync: Token launch, Airdrop metrics, eligibility criteria
June 13th, 2024

The airdrop mechanisms for the ZKsync token launch are designed to distribute tokens to the community in a fair and impactful manner.

Here are the key details:

Airdrop Allocation

  • Total Airdrop Allocation: 17.5% of the total ZK token supply is allocated for the airdrop.

  • Distribution: This allocation is distributed to 695,232 wallets, making it the largest token distribution among major rollups.

Eligibility and Allocation Process

Usage-Based Allocation (89% of Airdrop)

  • Eligibility Criteria:

    • Every address that has transacted on ZKsync Era and ZKsync Lite was checked for eligibility.

    • Each address must have at least one point to be eligible for the airdrop.

  • Allocation Steps:

    • Step 1: Eligibility: Addresses are checked against criteria that identify genuine users.

    • Step 2: Allocation: Eligible addresses are assigned a token allocation.

    • Step 3: Multipliers: Addresses can receive multipliers based on activities that indicate human behavior or contributions to ZKsync, such as owning ZKsync-native NFTs, holding ZKsync-native ERC20 tokens, using smart contract wallets, and more.

    • Step 4: Sybil Detection: An additional sybil detection step is applied to eliminate bot swarms while avoiding penalizing real users.

  • Token Allocation Limits:

    • Minimum allocation: 450 ZK tokens.

    • Maximum allocation: 100,000 ZK tokens.

    • Tokens from addresses with fewer than 450 ZK or more than 100,000 ZK are recycled back into the pool and redistributed, raising the minimum allocation to 917 ZK.

Contribution-Based Allocation (11% of Airdrop)

  • Eligibility:

    • Individuals, developers, researchers, communities, and companies who contributed to the ZKsync ecosystem and protocol through development, advocacy, or education, regardless of network usage.
  • Allocation:

    • More than half (5.8%) of this allocation goes to the treasuries of ZKsync native projects.

    • The remaining amount is allocated to contributors, companies, and individuals who have significantly impacted ZKsync's success, including developers, educators, security researchers, and community participants.

Claiming and Delegation

  • Claiming Tokens:

    • Community members can check their eligibility at claim.zknation.io and claim their tokens starting next week until January 3rd, 2025.

    • Eligible GitHub developers and ZKsync GitHub Discussion Helpers must associate their address to their account by June 25th, 00:00 CEST to claim.

    • External Projects, Protocol Guild, and ZKsync native project contributors can claim starting June 24th, 2024.

  • Gas-Free Claiming:

  • Governance Participation:

    • Once claimed, token holders can participate in the governance of the ZKsync protocol by either self-delegating or delegating their token voting rights to a representative.

Summary

The ZKsync token airdrop is designed to reward real users and contributors to the ecosystem, ensuring a fair distribution that supports the protocol's decentralization and governance. The process includes thoughtful sybil detection and allocation criteria to maximize the impact on genuine community members.
