China's "top 100 archaeological discoveries in a century" revealed that 100 items including Yangshao village site and Qin Shihuang mausoleum were selected

China News Agency, Sanmenxia, October 18 (Liu Pengkai Li) - the third Chinese Archaeological Conference opened in Sanmenxia City, Henan Province on the 18th. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the discovery of Yangshao culture and the birth of Chinese modern archaeology, China’s “top 100 archaeological discoveries in a century” was announced on the same day. 100 discoveries, including the site of Yangshao village in Henan, the site of dongwanchai North on Mawan island in Hong Kong, the site of Sanxingdui in Sichuan and the mausoleum of Qin Shihuang, were selected.

The list of “top 100 archaeological discoveries in a century” includes five Paleolithic Age sites: Zhoukoudian site in Beijing, Nihewan site in Yangyuan, Hebei, Dingcun site in Xiangfen, Shanxi, Jinniushan site in Yingkou, Liaoning and Shuidonggou site in Lingwu, Ningxia.

9 items from the Three Kingdoms period to the Sui and Tang Dynasties: Yecheng site in Linzhang, Hebei and the Northern Dynasty Tombs in Cixian County, the site of Longquan mansion in Shangjing, Bohai State, Heilongjiang, the site of Luoyang City in Han and Wei dynasties, Henan, the site of Luoyang City in Sui and Tang dynasties, Henan, the site of Famen Temple in Shaanxi, the site of Daming Palace in Tang Dynasty, Shaanxi, Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang, Gansu, Dulan hot water tombs in Qinghai, and Astana ancient tombs in Turpan, Xinjiang.

9 items in song, Liao, Jin and Yuan Dynasties: Liao Shangjing site in Inner Mongolia, Yuan Shangdu site in Inner Mongolia, Huining mansion site in Jin Shangjing, Heilongjiang, Lin’an City site and official kiln site in Southern Song Dynasty in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, Longxing Temple site in Qingzhou, Shandong, Baisha song tomb in Xuchang, Henan, shipwreck of “Nanhai I” in Guangdong, Hailongtun city site in Zunyi, Guizhou and Yang’s Chieftain tombs in Bozhou, Xixia mausoleum in Ningxia.

Three items in the Ming and Qing Dynasties: Ming Dingling in Beijing, the kiln site of Royal kiln factory in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi, and the battlefield site in Jiangkou, Sichuan in the late Ming Dynasty.

Five excellent archaeological site protection and exhibition projects nominated by the cultural heritage protection professional committee of the Chinese Archaeological Society and voted online were also announced at the opening ceremony on the same day, namely: Zhoukoudian site in Beijing, Liangzhu site in Yuhang, Zhejiang, Wanshouyan site in Sanming, Fujian, Chengdu Jinsha site in Sichuan and Qinshihuang Mausoleum in Shaanxi.

The “top 100 archaeological discoveries in a century” project reflects the achievements of important academic research on Chinese Archaeology in the origin of mankind, the origin of agriculture, the formation and development of the origin of Chinese civilization, the birth of China’s early country and the formation and development of a unified multi-ethnic country. They have solved major academic problems in their respective fields and had a significant impact at home and abroad, It plays an important role in the development history of Chinese archaeology.
