柯立芝效应由Frank A. Beach1955年提出，据说是其学生建议此命名 最初是对大白鼠进行的实验 男性在射精后因不应期不能和同一个女性马上再次性交 但文献证据支持柯立芝效应：若能获得不同女性，则射精后不应期缩短甚至彻底消失 全新陌生伴侣对多巴胺的提升远高于熟悉伴侣间性行为，无论夫妻爱得多深

这么一想，不应期可能并不是为了防止无休止交配而形成的自我保护机制。而是为了不要在短时间内把生殖资源输出在同一个雌性身上造成溢出浪费的一种优化机制
