After more than two years of discussion and preparation, from Chongming in Shanghai to Gangrenboqi in Tibet, it traveled 20000 kilometers, climbed 5300 meters and crossed 10 provinces, cities and autonomous regions. The “Rong yuan” space art exhibition opened in hall 6 of Shanghai Baolong Art Museum on December 25, 2021!
The exhibition is mostly composed of space and material works, with more than 10000 components and equipment. Nine plates are distributed in seven spaces. According to the order of viewing the exhibition, they are 1 Overture - misty forest, 2 column of light, 3 wing of the wind, 4 teahouse of light, 5 melting pot of light, 6 raindrops, 7 computational light and shadow, 8 ending - Cave of light, and 9 gags.

The column of light records the refraction and disappearance of ice. The work completed a seemingly futile feat: the artist took 15 cans of river water from Wusongkou and frozen it into a huge triangular ice column, which was transported from Shanghai to the Qinghai Tibet Plateau and brought the ice to Gangrenboqi, the center of the world. He also took water from mapanyongcuo holy lake in tachin and brought it back to Shanghai to be frozen into an icicle, so that tachin’s pure water could be irrigated on the land at the mouth of Chongming Yangtze River. It records the refraction and disappearance of ice in a specific field, and discusses the relationship between existence and time.

Wings of the wind records the data of the wind blowing the prayer flags and converts it into the kinetic energy of the on-site mechanical devices after calculation, so that the light can change freely with the rhythm. It uses contemporary technology to translate the romantic expression of prayer flags, and transmits the mysterious and beautiful customs of Tibet to the world: whenever a strong wind blows, the prayer flags are raised, which is a blessing to the world.

The main body of the work “tea house of light” is composed of more than 5000 full bowls. The main creator artist Bai Shui poured great feelings into it. “Manbo is actually very simple. If you turn it over, it looks like a Buddha’s head. Its bubble structure is full on the outside and empty on the inside. The concept of wisdom in traditional Chinese Buddhism and Taoism philosophy is’ empty is full, full is empty ‘. Therefore, it is endowed with the meaning of wisdom here.”. The light white gauze curtain surrounds the stable dome space of the main body of the work and enters it. The sky image from okaren Boqi is transmitted on the top of the teahouse in real time. The gap of space is eliminated by technology, and the two places spanning thousands of miles can “share the same time”. The work combines tea drinking with contemporary aesthetics, and redefines the traditional oriental humanistic spirit with the current language.

Around the tea room of light, the melting vessel of light contains two sub series: melting vessel and melting sound. The key work “leaves of grass” in “melting vessel” comes from paying tribute to the unknown and weak forces around us. Before the cold winter came, the creator collected many unknown withered grass, took photos and recorded them, and then fixed the life in four-dimensional space into two-and-a-half light and shadow with high-temperature glass melt. Through the conversion of materials, he left traces of life for the unknown weeds that are about to disappear. It is just like some chapters in the long river of time. It is unheard of, but it is true. “Melting sound” collects the sounds and pictures collected from the plateau, hoping to put these traces of life into the showcase for collection. The work is a careful feeling of animism, integrating the inner and outer with a quiet state of mind.

On the surface, the device raindrops only places nine large and small glass raindrops in a space of about 160 square meters, but the size of most glass raindrops is not less than the height of adults. The work replaces the scales of objects in nature. Through the exchange of scales between raindrops and people, the artist tries to trigger thinking about equality. The originally tiny rain has become a behemoth here. When the scale of the existing impression of things changes, people’s original cognition will be in great contrast.

“Suanli light and shadow” is an intelligent interactive work. The picture used in the work was taken in Ali area and Shanghai in August 2021. Through the noise capture of the exhibition site, it can calculate in real time, making the picture unpredictable.
