On May 11, Sogou map announced on its official website that Sogou map will officially go offline at 23:00 on May 15. At that time, all services will be closed. Users are advised to download Tencent map. Previously, Sogou map app has been removed from the application market.
In September 2021, Sogou announced that it had completed the merger with Tencent, became an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Tencent holdings, and completed the privatization transaction, which is also the direct reason why Sogou map went offline.
Interface news once exclusively reported that after the merger with Tencent, most of Sogou’s business was merged into Tencent PCG (platform and content business group), in which the main team was merged with Tencent’s highlights.
Other media reported that most of Sogou’s original businesses will be merged with similar products of PCG. Only search and input methods and other businesses will maintain Sogou brand operation, and Sogou map has ended its historical mission.
Sogou map is the earliest map website for public service in China. Its history can be traced back to 1999.
At that time, a map merchant named go 2 map was established. Sogou spent US $9.3 million to acquire the company in 2005 and applied its map service related technology to Sogou products. Soon after, Sogou renamed it Sogou map.
