preface

Xiamen residential design and life festival is jointly sponsored by Xiamen International Stone Exhibition and ihida residential space designer club. Among them, the space exhibition of Xiamen residential design and life festival is an important part of the life festival. What new imagination and thinking will the collision between design and stone in space bring? What kind of significance and inspiration does the energy field built by design and stone have for the current social context? Behind this, how can designers and brands work together to realize the most important meaning of “exhibition”?

The theme of the space exhibition of 2022 Xiamen human settlements design and life festival is a lifetime of one stone, with “life” as the core. It is hoped to present the vitality, growth and vitality of stones in the form of space exhibition, and finally convey the ideal vision of a better human settlements life. In this regard, how did the design guests interpret the exhibition theme? We invited designers and brands to have a common dialogue on the exhibition space, tell the story behind the exhibition from a professional perspective, and hope to explore the future potential and possibilities of design, stone and exhibition from different perspectives.

Chu River Han boundary

The theme of this space art installation is the Chu River and Han Kingdom, which is mainly expressed in the form of chess. The dividing line “Chu River Han boundary” in the chess board originated from the Chu Han war. Our theme of “Chu River Han boundary” is based on the fact that the dividing line is the center, and both ends (called both sides) hold different ideas. One side universally chose the principle of mining and using a large number of natural materials; The other party chooses the principle of little use or recycling.

At the same time, the “repeated swing left and right” supplemented by the seesaw device means to remind human beings of the alarm bell at all times. What we want to express is that “things will turn against each other at the extreme” is the law of nature. A large number of mining and destruction are bound to bring punishment to nature, and advocate human conservation and recycling.

Curator and stone brand Q & A

About the original intention of participation

Q1: stone is one of the oldest and commonly used building decoration materials, which has also led to some people’s stereotype of stone. What was Mr. Xie’s established impression of stone before? Why did you choose to participate in this exhibition?

A1: Xie Tian: first of all, stone is a natural material, which has always been divided into high and low, more referring to the difference between scarcity and abundance. In addition, whether there are craftsmen or artists involved in the carving process and art. Participating in one of the exhibitions of the second Habitat Design and life festival, I don’t think it belongs to curation. It can be understood as making an artistic installation with spatial attributes.

Q2: wanlishi participated in the first Habitat exhibition last year. This year, he cooperated with two booths again. One is to cooperate with Mr. Qin Si to explore space, and the other is what Mr. Xie Tian called “space art installation”. What are the differences between the three attempts and what would you like to share with you?

A2: Wang Tianping: Wanli Stone’s strength lies in providing comprehensive stone solutions. From this point of view, any work is not much different from our production and construction. Of course, in addition to materials and production, each work has the life and significance of each work. On the premise of understanding and respecting the works to the greatest extent, we ensure that the works achieve the best expressiveness through stone.

About curatorial space

Q1: the theme of Mr. Xie’s exhibition is “the boundary between the Chu River and the Han Dynasty”. We know that the boundary between the Chu River and the Han Dynasty is a historical allusion of the Chu and Han dynasties after the fall of the Qin Dynasty, and it is also the dividing line in the chess board. What is the connection between your spatial display and the two? What kind of creative background and thinking is it based on? What do you want to express?

A1: Xie Tian: this space art installation is not directly related to historical allusions. Only the formal language of chess is adopted. The dividing line in the chess board originates from the Chu Han war. Our theme of “Chu River Han boundary” is based on taking the dividing line as the center, and the two ends (called both sides) hold different ideas. One side universally chooses the principle of mining and using a large number of natural materials; The other party chooses the principle of little use or recycling; The expression is that “things will turn against each other when they reach the extreme” is the law of nature. A large number of mining and destruction are bound to bring punishment to nature. It advocates human beings to save and reuse.

Q2: natural stone has left many immortal buildings for mankind, and it is also a valuable non renewable resource. Green environmental protection is also what our industry has been advocating and practicing in recent years. Mr. Wang, how can Wanli Stone balance the irreplaceable and non renewable nature of stone?

A2: Wang Tianping: natural stone is the wealth given to mankind by nature. Awe of nature is what we have always advocated. Therefore, on the one hand, we are very strict in mining; On the other hand, actively adopt new technologies, new processes and new equipment to reduce the losses in the mining and processing process.

At the same time, we will maximize the comprehensive utilization rate of natural stone. For example, we have started the retail business, recycling corner waste to make handicrafts, small household products and other industrial materials, so that natural stone can enter thousands of households in this way. In this way, people can not only enjoy the natural gifts to the greatest extent, but also balance and save the use of materials.

Q3: in teacher Xie’s video, we saw a seesaw like device in the middle. What’s the meaning of this device? What is the connection with space?

A3: Xie Tian: the seesaw device on the dividing line “repeatedly swings left and right”, which means to remind mankind of the alarm bell at all times.

Q4: the seesaw device can be said to be the finishing touch of this scheme. How does president Wang understand the seesaw and the whole scheme?

A4: Wang Tianping: Stone always feels “heavy” and “static”. Teacher Xie’s plan let us see the “light” and “dynamic” of stone. At the same time, this requires the “balance” of force, which reminds us of our relationship with nature and requires us to fear nature.

On the application of stone

Q1: in the space, which stones does Mr. Xie mainly choose? Where are these stones used? What are the highlights or shortcomings?

A1: Xie Tian: in this space installation art, the space structure almost does not use stone, or even the chessboard. As the role of “handsome” or “soldier”, the original intention of the design is to promote less use or reuse. The disadvantage is the awareness of the “opposition”, and may even be “scolded”!
