Gm frens.
We have successfully launched the first phase of OnlyFrens eehhh frens.page.
As of today, pages have the following features:
- Choose one of your .eth ENS domains & set your username
- Choose one of your NFTs as profile pic
- Add a small biography and links to your page (max 4 rows)
- Add a Twitter profile
- Send donations to your frens
As reference, this is what our page now looks like: frens.page/frenspage.eth
Next is Phase 2 - the Content Phase.
The next big phase on the roadmap will be the “content phase”. Soon, you will be able to add content pieces to your pages (Images and Texts, later Videos).
We have planned a different kind of interface from what you may know from other social networks.
This is what the interface will look like:
Frens will add their content pieces on a canvas and thus “clip” them to their pages.
Frens will need to replace content over time.
The available space will be limited, like on a whiteboard.
Frens must use it wisely.
Visitors will need to bookmark the good pages of their frens.
Here’s another simple example:
No scrollable feeds
We don’t want to replicate endless feeds, infinite scrolling, or classic ads - legacy mechanics that are responsible for quite some trouble on existing social networks.
Web3 social networks need to be better than this.
The Web3 should not rely on ads, therefore there should be fewer incentives for any platform to optimize for maximum user attention times. We also want to limit the external influence of corporate and mass media and their economic power.
The baseline is:
Frens.page should be fun.
Frens choose what they want to see.
No funny business by corporate trolls.
It will be like back in the good old days.
Also, we have a cool idea for phase 3, but we can’t tease it yet.
The future of frens will be glorious.
Before we build Phase 2: Phase “1.5.”
There are a few things we need to prepare in order to successfully build phase 2.
- We will integrate more native ENS features so that you can choose to automagically import your pfp, twitter, and description directly from ENS. Thx to all the people who suggested this.
- We need to implement a method to check whether you still own your pfp and .eth NFTs. Therefore an automated check will be built soon.
- We’re currently relying on the OpenSea API to display NFTs and their metadata. We may need to implement a fallback API for cases when OpenSea is down.
- We may consider adding an “About” page to provide a bit more information on what frens.page is all about.
