Synergy Land: A New ARPG for fans of Path of Exile

Synergy Studios brings a team with experience in companies like Ubisoft, Konami, Nintendo, and Riot games. With their creative minds put together, I introduce to you: Synergy Land. An upcoming Play-to-Earn Action Role Playing Game (ARPG) on the Solana Blockchain where players can explore dungeons and complete quests in a fantasy world where the reward is some sweet crypto and NFTs. Let’s see in the next five minutes if Synergy Land is worth your time.

Graphics / Sound Design

Synergy Land incorporates a 3D art style that looks like a balance between a realistic and a more animated look. The world your character and trusted pet roam in is very immersive which is essential for a game of this genre because players will be running around the map often. The added experience of a bright, highly saturated world that compliments the art style is definitely a plus with that in mind.

I was amazed by how well the developers implemented both the music and the ambient noise that you’ll hear while playing. You can hear a waterfall from a distance, and it will grow louder as you run closer to its location. The footsteps also sound crisp and match the texture of the ground the character walks on. You can hear the rough texture of sand if the road is dusty and squelching when walking on mud and near ponds. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.

Gameplay

Inspired by games like Diablo and Path of Exile, Synergy Land shares similar gameplay with Action RPGs that came before it but with the inclusion of a play-to-earn system. Although it seems like more work needs to be put into the game before it can sit with the genre staples, there are unique mechanics like owning an island which include the huge bosses that players need to fight for some rewards. By owning these objectives, you receive a portion of the rewards other players will earn whenever they slay the bosses you own. This also fuels the player-powered economy that the developers want to promote.

Synergy Land features two game modes. PVE where you can roam around the map’s multiple biomes slaying mobs using the character you create and customize, equipping them with multiple spells and weapons that fit your playstyle. Then there’s PVP mode where you equip your best character and pet and then go on real-time battles. Unlocking different spells and discovering powerful synergies from the 4 elements and hundreds of spells that are available.

Earning Potential

Synergy Land utilizes a two-token system to reward its players. The first one is $SNG which acts as the governance token and is used to make purchases in the game’s marketplace. Holders of this coin can also use it for staking, and it can be earned through special events with a fixed supply.

The second coin is $ACN which is the main reward for completing quests and dungeons. It has no fixed supply but is regulated instead by burning mechanisms like purchasing resources in the marketplace.

There is also land ownership which is vital for players who want to get serious in the game since you can only craft items and weapons on land you own.

Final Thoughts

Comparing Synergy Land to other big titles will make it look like an unpolished project with a lot of promise but on its own, it offers players both casual and hardcore a game where they can play with diversity and not be caged by a specific style of play. You can also play the game solo if you want the loot to yourself or call a few friends to challenge harder bosses that guarantee more rare treasure in return.

Although the game is still in development, the graphics look immersive enough already although I cannot say the same in regard to the gameplay. If I’m to base my decisions on the current state of the game, then I’d say that it seems like they are trying to make people spend in the game. Locking the more decent weapons and characters behind a paywall in the form of their badges since the free hero takes an awful lot of time just to kill the starter mobs. Although the alpha is not reflective of how the final game will look, this first impression doesn’t seem to appeal to my taste as you will regularly fight a lot as the game is an ACTION RPG. It’s not satisfying to take forever to kill mobs if that’s the majority of the gameplay.

We can expect the complete game in Quarter 4 of 2022, and I recommend testing out the alpha before diving deeper into Synergy Land. We have yet to see the synergy of abilities that the game boasts about and I think that’ll be key for investors to see if they can synergize with this new ARPG in the Solana Blockchain.
