Big Time: Dr.Who your way through this blockchain game

Imagine an alternative history where you have to fight Genghis Khan one moment and then save Albert Einstein from a mysterious force that wants to collapse time and space itself. This is pretty wild to imagine but Big Time makes this easy to visualize with a fantasy adventure game about timelines.

Big Time is a multiplayer action RPG game where players team up to adventure and explore into different timelines and spaces. It is the first project from Big Time studios that features a stacked team of individuals who have a lot of experience in the gaming industry. Some of them have worked for titles such as Call Of Duty, Gears of War, Fortnite, Starcraft, League of Legends I can go on but you get the idea. Their CEO is also the founder of Decentraland which is one of the bigger titles in the blockchain gaming space as of the time of writing. So you know this game is about to be good since industry veterans have worked on it, but don’t get your hopes up too much since even AAA games these days tend to have lower player bases.

The game design is similar to that of Genshin Impact, Destiny, No man’s sky, and to some extent Skylanders with all the creatures that you as a player will have to fight with inside the various dungeons in the game called ‘timelines’. There are 4 classes in the game that you can select; Time Warrior, Chronomancer, Shadowblade, and Quantum Fixer, each covering the various classes of RPGs like warriors, mages, assassins, and tanks.

What’s interesting is that players can cycle through these classes and still maintain the levels of their character when they are entering a dungeon. This gives way to some strategizing that a player and their party of 6 can do to beat the dungeons and claim the loot drops that the monsters will give. Loot drops on these dungeons, especially upon defeating big bosses, are NFTs that you can use to make your team stronger.

There is also a concept called a time machine in the game. The time machine is like a pocket house for players where they can store their loot, in-game cosmetics, and forge new weapons to help them in their battles. This is also important since these time machines occupy SPACE, which is the game's form of virtual land and the main in-game utility asset of Big TIme that comes with different rarities and 3 varying sizes.

Although the game is marketed as a free-to-play game, the only way to earn tokens from the game is through Time Keepers, which are powerful beings that can craft Hourglass NFTs letting players earn Big Time’s Token (not released yet). The Time Keepers and hourglass can both be bought in the Big Time Marketplace. I view this as what makes it a possible pay-to-win game, since to have access to the Forges and the Timekeeper on the Time machine, it makes you spend your SPACE but I think this is just their way of getting players who are willing to spend ahead of others in the game like how boosts in other games work.

Overall, I am fascinated by both the gameplay and graphics of the game. I like the direction where the developers are trying to go with their project. They aim to make a game that is actually meant for playing with the added benefit of being able to earn while doing so. It’s a breath of fresh air since most of the play-to-earn games I’ve been seeing lately are marketed more on the earn side of things and often have gameplay that is repetitive and the only motivation players of those projects have is the earning aspect of it. Unironically with time (hah!)  , proper development, and support from its players and investors I believe Big Time can become a big-time game in the blockchain gaming space.
