Polygonum Online: A Free-to-Play Shooter in the blockchain

**Most games that have found steady player bases in the blockchain gaming industry have been varied; You have strategy card games like Axie Infinity and Splinterlands. Some games offer games fueled by their creators inside their ecosystem like The Sandbox and DecentraLand. Polygonum Online wishes to be a viable Play-to-earn game in the shooter category and it’s more than just a shooter game.

Polygonum Online is a game developed by Marcius Studio built on the Binance Smart chain. It is an online open-world survival shooter game that aims to bridge the space between repetitive P2E gaming and enjoyable gameplay that doesn’t have actual rewards.

At first, it might seem like another ordinary survival shooter game with jaggedy 3d graphics of the characters in a bright dynamic map that may be enjoyable for some players, but it houses an open-world and player economics that you may experience in games like Moonlighter and Recettear. Polygonum Online also offers this experience but the players can more directly affect this economy. Giving players that sense of digital ownership with the NFTs they purchase in the game. That doesn’t mean you’re required to spend anything since they market this game as free-to-play meaning they have a reward system where everyone can earn something.

They also seek to cater to every gamer trying to hop into Polygonum by having three different modes of play within the open world of the game by providing specific zones to play around depending on how intense they want their experience to be:

**
**

Farm Zone - A safe area in the game where players can craft and upgrade materials they get from expeditions and store their items. This zone prohibits players from any type of hostility in the game. Here you can also find the NFT marketplace and NPC marketplace where players can sell their items and NFTs

**
**

PVE Zone - This more open area is where players gather resources for crafting. This is also where the mines are, allowing players to mine ores used to craft weapons and items. You need to be careful though because zombies and wild animals are roaming the area and they need to be prepared for conflict in this zone but don’t be afraid since most of the zombies here are low-level only.

**
**

PVP Zone - Here is where the hostile and intense part of the game lies. Traversing this zone exposes you to deadlier zombies and zombie bosses who are tough to eliminate. Other players can also finish off nearby players which can give them bounties. Although there is a high risk in this area, many more rare items can only be obtained in this area so players may gear up and go here if they want to progress in the game further.

By completing activities and quests in the game, players will be rewarded with SP (Skill Point) which is the Utility Token in the game. There is also a Polygonum Coin (POG) which is the governing token in the game and is used in the exchange of NFTs for even more profit if you wish to just trade and not play in the game.

In general, I think Polygonum is a great and exciting project. With its alpha testing done, I can only expect the game to get better upon its eventual release in November. The game caught a lot of attention upon its start in December last year and I think the hype around it will continue to grow as its public launch date comes sooner. I think this is one of the games to anticipate this year and I can’t wait to hop around its world when it drops.
