Voxie Tactics: A New Tactical Game on the Crypto space

What do you get if you combine the gameplay of Final Fantasy tactics with graphics reminiscent of the endless jumper CrossyRoad on Minecraft biomes? A thrilling, retro RPG game that is fun and addictive! And the best part is you can earn while playing the game!

Voxie Tactics is a play-to-earn, tactical turn-based, RPG game launched in March 2021 by AlwaysGeeky Games where two players battle with their wits using a team made up of three characters called Voxies which are divided into 21 classes and 9 races, each having unique abilities. The goal is to wipe out the enemy’s team before they take down your pieces in a chess-like match.

There are 10,000 genesis Voxies which are special NFT characters released at the start of the game. The lowest prices on some of these rare voxies are 0.5 Eth on OpenSea at the time of writing. The price tag is huge upfront but it lets you earn more as you play the game. I believe this incentivizes the early adopters of the project with an experience unique to them and a slight boost to justify spending on the game aside from the information that holders of genesis Voxies are the only ones able to “recruit” (mint or create) new generation Voxies to add to the game. Holders also get $Voxel (the token they use in the game) airdropped to their wallets every week.

There are two modes of play that a player can experience. One is Exploration mode, where the player explores the vibrant world of Voxie and uncovers the backstory of the game as they go through missions. They get a chance to earn NFT items that they can equip to make their Voxies stronger or sell to the marketplace which will be released on the game’s webpage to earn extra aside from the tokens you receive after every match.

The other game mode is Multiplayer Battling which is a PVP game mode where two players are matched and battle their Voxies on a 3d tile-based map until the other player’s Voxies are eliminated or the enemy player concedes. It may seem easy at first but like most tactical games, it requires a lot of thinking and analysis to determine what moves to make at specific moments during battle. It’s almost like commanding a little army (in this case, made up of pixel creatures that have abilities) making sure that their resources are well-spent and they are positioned correctly to ensure victory in every battle.

Voxie Tactics is still in open beta and my experience with it has been great thus far but, there are still some points to note. The in-game controls are quite confusing and there was no tutorial when I started. Some animations on ability casts are still buggy and not working as intended and I hope they get better as the game enters its official launch date.

Coming from Axie Infinity, I think putting item drops in the more casual exploration mode is a great idea to reward players that want to play this game mode rather than forcing them to play just because they need it for their daily quests making it seem like a chore. It is also a viable way to play and still earn if you are like the other people who dislike the pressure and intensity PVP matches tend to have.

Overall, I think the game has a lot of potential. I had a blast playing the game. It also helps that it is free-to-play to help possible investors to dip their toes in the water before diving into the game it is also a great way to help new players get in and start earning right from the get-go. I believe players who love games that require a lot of thinking and looking for mental stimulation will find this new tactical game in the crypto space worth their while.
