Defi Kingdoms: When Decentralized Exchanged is turned P2E RPG

Many crypto games look like easily put-together games just so developers can slap on that P2E tag and invite a lot of investors in without the game actually being playable at the very least. Defi Kingdoms takes a new approach to gamifying decentralized exchanges and merging them with NFTs to create value for the assets you can have digital ownership with. Let’s take a peek at what Defi Kingdoms has to offer!

Background

Defi Kingdoms is developed by Kingdom Studios and launched on August 22, 2021, with the goal of making Decentralized Finance accessible to all as well as changing the GameFi landscape. Defi Kingdoms is built on the Harmony protocol but moved to Avalanche’s AVAX chain. One thing to keep in mind though is that the team working behind this project is not fully doxed.

The team is shown when you visit their website, but they only contain names and pictures that don’t actually show their faces. It also doesn’t lead you to any of their social media profiles so that should also be a point of concern although their Discord server is really active and very helpful to most new players who are trying to get into the game. There are dedicated channels for newbies and the moderators are almost always actively trying to answer questions and inquiries.

Graphics and Gameplay

Featuring an 8-bit style RPG aesthetic, Defi Kingdoms takes a lot of inspiration from Runescape but it is built to create value for the Hero NFTs that you can use inside the game. NFTs and exchanges are what powers the overall gameplay for Defi Kingdoms. Heroes are NFTs with different classes and generations. They have different stats and specific professions they are good at. Your gameplay begins with choosing the proper hero for the pace you’ll want to take the game in as there is no one correct way of playing the game.

Defi Kingdoms is a mostly PVE game right now with plans on creating a PVP mode where you can battle with other players. However, right now the gameplay is mostly sending out your heroes on different quests and completing your profession-specific jobs to be able to earn resources like gold and materials inside the game which you can then use to craft items and consumables that you can either use to further increase your hero stats or do more quests or also sell on the in-game marketplace.

Summoning is this game’s version of breeding in most P2E games. You use two heroes to create a new hero. Although it sounds easy, doing more research before you get into summoning will be important as you have to take into account the generation of your two parent heroes and the profession you want your new hero to possess. There are also things like the summon count you need to keep an eye on when buying new heroes to be sure that you can still use them for summoning as each hero has limited summons.

Earning Potential

There are multiple ways to earn $Jewels, which is the main utility and governance token inside the game. There is the option of completing the missions and quests as you receive Jewels as rewards for some of them although it would be a bit slow and time-consuming. There is also the Garden where you can stake your Jewels so that you can profit from them if you keep them in for a specific time. Although you have to make sure you are okay with keeping your jewels locked in there for quite some time as there are big fees if you withdraw your jewels away from the specified date. Finally, there’s also the hero summoning mentioned above as well as crafting items and selling them to the in-game marketplace.

Final Thoughts

I personally think Defi Kingdoms has a lot of potential since I first crossed paths with it. The 8-bit art style gave me nostalgia and the gameplay are more laid-back than most of the popular games coming up lately. Although if you are looking for a game where you can battle it out with other players and test your decision-making under pressure, I think you might have to wait for a while as the PVP mode is not yet implemented in the game despite being a year into its development.

There isn’t really much gameplay available as you simply send out your heroes into missions and wait as the timer for those runs out before sending them out again. A good thing is that Defi Kingdoms is always updating and putting out new content for players and investors to keep you interested and if this sounds right up your alley, then delving deeper into Defi Kingdoms might be worth a shot.
