Lost Relics: A Diablo-like Action Adventure RPG

More and more games are being announced for the blockchain space each day. Most of them just come and go and some stay long enough to develop an active player base. One of these games being Lost Relics. An action-adventure RPG powered by Enjin. Let’s take a look at how this game holds up in 2022.

Background

Released in 2020 and created by one-man army Cliff Cawley under Codeit Labs, Lost Relics had a lot of hype surrounding its launch since it was released in a year when Play-to-earn was a hot topic even among those with no experience in crypto. Many wanted to jump in on the crypto-empowered gaming experience and Lost Relics being the Free-to-play game it is, was something that people could test out.

Graphics and Gameplay

Considering it’s a game released in 2019, Lost Relics has outdated graphics by todays standards. With other ARPGs like Synergy Land and Ember Sword trying to contest its status as the only P2E ARPG for quite some time, an update in the aesthetics department is a much-needed upgrade to keep up with the competition.**

Gameplay-wise, Lost Relics is like your typical Action Adventure RPG where you venture into dungeons and battle enemies to collect resources with a chance to acquire Relics. These are Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) that range from uncommon to transcendent which can offer additional skills and stats to your character to help you with clearing the ever-changing dungeons in the game.

Putting its earning mechanics aside, I think Lost Relics is an enjoyable game but it does not bring anything new to the genre sadly.

Earning Potential

With a lot of its earning power being limited to its NFTs, I don’t think there’s much dough to be earned from Lost Relics. As new and more updated games keep on appearing in the market, the player base for Lost Relics is far from the numbers it reached in the past few years. This may also affect the trading volume and the demands for the NFTs you may acquire in the game although there are still some projects left in its roadmap such as the 4-player Coop mode and 4-player campaigns to better its PVP and PVE experience as well as Land which can add more depth overall. This could make the game better and attract more players in, so grinding on some dungeons to acquire NFTs might still be worthwhile in the meantime.

The game also uses Enjin’s ENJ token to make transfers of items and other assets in the game so be sure to stock up on them along with the in-game currency gold and Shadowstones which you can acquire just by playing.

Final Thoughts

Many games, both blockchain and regular, have come out since the launch of Lost Relics and I think the changes and updates that it should do in order to stay relevant should be massive and mass-appealing. Since they currently rely on NFTs to create the player economy and have no in-game token attributed to the game, having lots of players is the only way to create the demand for all the NFTs that current and future players can mint through playing the game.

This may be hard for the developer as he is a one-man team but if he want the game to be relevant for far longer in a space where tokens and assets can quickly change values, They should take calculated steps to ensure that Lost Relics is not just another RPG game that’s strapped with NFTs. I believe Lost Relics still has potential and may appeal to people who love retro-feeling games and if you are one of them, you should give Lost Relics a shot to see if it's a game you want to play!
