You’ve tried the most badass games on the market but have yet to find a game that makes you feel soft while still wanting that edgelord madness. What do you do? I suggest you check out SolChicks, a Play-to-earn game in the Solana Blockchain that features a Dark Fantasy theme but with Cute Chicks (baby chickens, not pretty ladies) at the helm who may fool you for their adorable appearance at first, but pack quite the punch (or claw)!
Background
Invaded by the dreadful SolFox, the brave SolChicks were driven away from their home and now they venture to the land of Solana to fight monsters and complete missions to find a place they can call their own. SolChicks is a game that mixes MOBA, RPG, and Battle Royale while also incorporating play-to-earn mechanics. With over 60 experienced personnel working on this project and an extensive list of partners backing them like Brave Browser, ChainLink, and even the rapper Ice Cube. We can expect that SolChicks is going to be a high-quality project but can they deliver their promise of being the leading fantasy PVP game and P2E ecosystem in the Solana blockchain?
Gameplay
Looking at their gameplay trailer, SolChicks feels like a mixture of both Diablo and World of Warcraft in my opinion. Especially the Healthbar and Mana Bar with the abilities beside it found in the bottom middle part of the screen. That takes me back to old MOBA games I used to play with my friends but instead of characters that look like they came from the horde or war goblins riding on skeleton horses, your character is an NFT of a cute young bird that you can classify into three classes with varying playstyles like a Paladin, a Mage or a Priest each with their own specialization.
The first playable game mode is an RPG experience set on their planet Chicco that gives players an essence of what the gameplay will be upon its public launch in the 4th Quarter of 2022. There are also game modes other than this PVE adventure mode. They include:
Adventure Mode - A PVE game mode where you explore the Planet Mellow and do quests as you roam its different settings.
Raid Mode - Another PVE game mode but this time you team up with other players in the server to go on raids and defeat a boss. The rewards will be based on how much a player contributes in battle to defeat this tough enemy that even veterans can’t solo.
PVP mode - This mode looks like a mix of Battle Royale and MOBA where players duke it out on a field. There is also an MMR set in this mode so only players with the same level of characters can face each other and not get demolished by higher ranks.
Storyline - As the SolChicks are the equivalent of a Spartan in their worldview, you will be helping your SolChick level up so they can face any encounter as they wander through the lands of Solana after they have been exiled by the Solfoxes that attacked Chicco.
Earning Mechanics
SolChicks uses two tokens. The first one is $CHICKS which acts as the governance token. Players who hold $CHICKS can have direct input with the direction they want the game to head into. It’s given to the highest-ranking players and it’s required for breeding SolChicks and making new hatchlings.
The second coin is $SOLCOINS which is the in-game currency mostly used inside SolChicks. It can purchase items like the consumable potions in the game as well as some equipment. This is also the main reward token for playing. There’s a chance that players can be rewarded with NFTs that can be used to make their SolChicks stronger or sell in the marketplace for bigger profits.
Final Thoughts
I have never seen a game like SolChicks before. At first look, I thought it was a meme and was ready to set it aside but I’m glad I did a little bit of digging. Although it’s one of the more popular projects in Solana as evident by the amount of people following the game, I think it’s still a hidden gem in the bustling Web3 games market. I guess one factor about this is that it is not Free-to-play and you must first invest in a SolChick NFT before you can hop onto the servers and whack some SolFoxes. Another thought is that apart from the adorable chicks that you control, the game just doesn’t stand out from the saturated MMO market.
Overall, if you like the concept of the game, my suggestion is to wait for the scholarship system they plan to implement so you can try the game with a much lower barrier for entry and see for yourself whether SolChicks claws above its class or we just have to break more eggs to see an omelet better than this one.
