Located on Rua do Esquível, the Palácio dos Maldonados was built in the 17th century. XVI by a local Furtado Mendonça family, for which it served as a residence.
This Maldonados Palace is still known today with the same name.
Following a line of residences from the 17th century, this building is built on a rectangular plan, with a Renaissance profile mirrored in the main portal and in the arched archway in the inner courtyard. Apparently due to the external grandeur of the building, it is equally grand on the inside.
In the 17th century, it underwent a small campaign of works, in an attempt to try to transfigure a manor and palatial typology into a country house with characteristic dependencies to support the work.
Present
In the 19th century it was used as the headquarters of the Liceu de Beja, a situation that lasted for thirty-five years, and is currently used as a residence for students.
