Hello everyone, my name is Charlie Chen, also known as Moku in the Web3.com community. This letter is for female working professionals and novice of the Web3.com industry. Apologize for the connection malfunction in the recent Relation Talk and my sharing has come out in the form of text article.

For those who are not familiar with [Web3.com](http://Web3.com), we are known as a decentralized information aggregation service platform dedicated to serving the Web3 ecosystem. We provide a comprehensive and user-friendly interface for integrating and visualizing on- and off-chain data. Our goal is to bridge the gap between Web2 and within the Web3 industry and to be a one-stop destination for users to explore the dweb - decentralized web.

And here is a little thread of me, Charlie Chen - an ordinary female working professional in Web3 Space. Before the term "Web3" became an industry buzzword, I worked in traditional media as a news journalist for many years at a press agency, where I received training on various media formats, from print to digital media.

In 2018, the blockchain industry was gaining a lot of attention, and many media outlets were discussing token economics. At that time, I worked as an English editor at a well-known media outlet in the cryptocurrency industry. Later, I joined one of the top three global exchanges as a PR professional responsible for global media outreach. I also worked in market operations and PR for various business verticals, such as Layer2 and NFT exchanges.

Currently, [Web3.com](http://Web3.com) is the most exciting and promising project for me. It is a path with great potential for mass adoption and a project that I believe in. As a female working professional in the blockchain industry, I entered this field by chance, but I quickly realized that it is a space with endless opportunities and potential for growth. The Web3 business is a natural extension of my previous experiences, and it allows me to combine my passion for media, communications, and new technologies.

Web3 is essentially about decentralization. And there are many different approaches to getting involved. When I first entered the industry, I had to learn a lot about the technology and the way things work and terminologies in blockchain, defi, Web3. But I found that the best way to approach it was to start from your own strengths and interests. For example, if you enjoy creating content, then start writing articles or creating art. And if you enjoy programming, then find a project that aligns with your interests and start building. It takes time to learn and get comfortable with Web3, but it's important to remember that there are many ways to get involved and contribute to the ecosystem.

However, the Web3 concepts are constanstly involving and can be difficult for those who are not in the industry to understand. In Web2, we instinctively follow the registration process to create accounts and share our content on platforms like social media, email, and thought we OWN the accounts and contents we published etc. With Web3, however, this concept is disrupted. All data is stored on-chain, and companies do not have access to users' personal data. Your account and information belong to you, and no one else has control over it.

Thanks to the Ethereum name system (ENS) integration, Web3ite Pass holders can now use their [web3.com](http://web3.com) domains as their on-chain identities in ENS-enabled Apps. This means that you can input "[yourname.web3.com](http://yourname.web3.com)" in the address box and transfer money to the wallet address associated with the name. We believe that the on-chain domain feature is a significant step in bridging the gap between Web2 and Web3, and we're excited to see the possibilities it unlocks.

With this new feature, users can enjoy the following benefits:

* **Improved Security**: Smart contract addresses are typically long and difficult to remember, making them vulnerable to phishing attacks and accidental operations. By setting the smart contract address as an [xxx.web3.com](http://xxx.web3.com) domain name, it becomes easier to remember and identify. This is similar to ENS and other on-chain domain names. Additionally, the domain name allows users to directly access the contract address and confirm its authenticity through social media bindings, official certification, and other information displayed on the webpage.

* **Easy Information Retrieval**: When searching for records on blockchain explorers or other platforms, users may want to know the project or application information associated with a smart contract. If the contract address is an [xxx.web3.com](http://xxx.web3.com) domain name, users can quickly access the information by visiting the corresponding link.

**How to set up** Setting up the on-chain domain name feature requires an initial setup process. To get started, go to the "My Passes" page, select the domain you want to use as your on-chain domain name, and click the "Settings" button.

Set the resolution address for the name of your Web3ite Pass to point to the Ethereum Mainnet Address of your choice. By default, this address is set to the one that holds your domain. If the field below is blank, you must manually enter the address and press confirm to set it up.

Next, click on "Primary Name" in the top right menu.

**Temporary Changes to Web3ite Pass Release Rules**
To encourage wider adoption and inclusivity, we've decided to release all the domains for purchase during the early bird period, regardless of their length. ## Key Terms in Web3

Before using [Web3.com](http://Web3.com), understanding these terms may be helpful:

* **Blockchain:** A digital distributed ledger that facilitates recording transactions and information on a network. It can be viewed as a decentralized or distributed database.

* **NFT:** Non-fungible token (NFT) is a unique digital asset with ownership managed on a blockchain. Examples of NFTs include digital art, collectibles, virtual reality projects, encrypted domain names, and ownership records of physical assets.

* **Gas fee:** The cost of processing a transaction on the Ethereum blockchain, determined by supply and demand within the network (blockchain).

* **Blockchain address:** Also known as a "public key". Your wallet address is unique and used by others to send cryptocurrency or NFTs to you. NFTs and cryptocurrency are stored on the blockchain under your ownership address.

* **Crypto wallet:** An application or hardware device that allows individuals to store, retrieve blockchain assets (such as cryptocurrency and NFTs), and interact with blockchain (such as using smart contracts).

## What is Web3？

Web3 is the name given to the concept of a decentralized internet built on blockchain technology. If web 1.0 was the creation of the internet and web 2.0 saw us move to a social platform-centric internet, web3 signifies a shift into a decentralized, public internet centered on the concept of ownership.

Web3, in essence, puts control and ownership back in the hands of the people using it, ideally creating a more equal playing field for users with less outside control from third parties. The term web3 has become shorthand for all of the elements that make up this ecosystem, including cryptocurrency, blockchain technology, decentralized finance (known as “DeFi”), NFTs, the metaverse, and decentralized apps (“dApps”).

## What is a cryptocurrency wallet?

A cryptocurrency wallet is a software program, device, or physical medium used to store and manage the public and private keys of cryptocurrencies. In addition to the basic function of storing keys, cryptocurrency wallets typically provide functions for encrypting and signing information. For example, signatures can be used for executing smart contracts, cryptocurrency transactions, and authentication.

Cryptocurrencies, NFTs, and other forms of digital assets are essentially data recorded on the blockchain, with ownership of the assets determined by public and private keys. A cryptocurrency wallet serves as an interface for users to interact with their blockchain assets. For example, on Web3.com, users can use their wallets to purchase and transfer Web3ite Pass.

There are two main types of cryptocurrency wallets: hot wallets and cold wallets. Let's take a closer look.

### Hot wallet

A hot wallet is a cryptocurrency wallet that always needs to be connected to the internet and blockchain. This means that the private key used to access the cryptocurrency is stored in an online application when using a hot wallet.

Hot wallets can also be divided into custodial and non-custodial types. If a custodial wallet is used, you cannot fully control your funds. Storing cryptocurrency in a custodial wallet is like parking your own car in someone else's garage. Even though the car belongs to you, the garage key is in the hands of the garage owner. If the garage owner no longer shares their key with you one day, you will be unable to drive your car.

The best example of a custodial cryptocurrency wallet is an exchange wallet. After setting up an account on a cryptocurrency exchange, you can obtain a cryptocurrency wallet, but you cannot store the wallet's private key. You only own the wallet's public address where the funds are held. A non-custodial hot wallet is an exclusive wallet where you have both the funds and private keys.

## Top Crypto Funding Stories of 2022

***2022 was a watershed year for crypto venture capital, as investors poured tens of billions of dollars into blockchain-focused startups despite the overwhelmingly bearish trend in asset prices.***

### Haun Ventures: $1.5B

In March, crypto investor and Coinbase board member Katie Haun raised $1.5 billion for two Web3-focused investment funds. The newly launched Haun Ventures established a $500 million early-stage fund and a $1 billion acceleration fund to invest in “every layer of the Web3 tech stack.” In launching her new fund, Katie Haun recruited former executives from Airbnb, Coinbase and Google tech incubator Jigsaw.

### Huobi: $1B

In June, crypto exchange Huobi Global spun out a $1 billion investment fund focused on decentralized finance (DeFi) and Web3 projects. Dubbed Ivy Blocks, the new fund was designed to identify and invest in “promising blockchain projects” across a range of crypto sub-sectors. Specifically, Huobi Global will focus on providing “liquidity investments” to help DeFi projects get up and running.

### NBA Top Shot Creator: $725M

Dapper Labs, the company behind CryptoKitties and NBA Top Shot, launched a $725 million fund to support the development of its Flow blockchain. The fund received backing from a range of investors, including Andreessen Horowitz, Spartan Group and CoinFund. In addition to supporting the development community already building on Flow, the fund is being used to lure developers from other blockchains such as Ethereum.

### Dragonfly Capital: $650M

Crypto VC Dragonfly Capital closed its third funding round in April, raising $650 million to surpass its two previous rounds of $100 million and $200 million. The funding initiative, which was supported by Tiger Global, Sequoia China, KKR and Invesco, was higher than the $500 million the company initially declared as part of its Form D filing with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. Dragonfly said the funds would be used to invest in DeFi, metaverse and blockchain gaming startups.

### Fireblocks: $550M

Digital asset custody platform Fireblocks saw its valuation surge in January after closing a $550 million Series E funding round. The latest round brought Fireblocks’ cumulative funding to $799 million since 2019, as VCs continued to back institutional infrastructure solutions. Some of Fireblocks’ most prominent clients include Bank of New York Melon, Galaxy Digital and CoinShares.

### Binance Labs: $500M

Blockchain incubation and late-stage growth featured prominently in [Binance Labs’ $500 million fund](https://cointelegraph.com/news/binance-labs-500m-fund-to-catalyze-crypto-web3-blockchain-adoption), which launched in June. Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao said the funds would support project founders leading Web3 adoption across the DeFi, NFT, gaming, metaverse and social sub-sectors. At the time of its launch, Binance Labs’ fund was already supporting 14 projects across the DeFi and social finance sub-sectors.

### Yoga Labs: $450M

Although [the NFT market peaked in 2021](https://cointelegraph.com/news/what-remains-in-the-nft-market-now-that-the-dust-has-settled), VCs are banking on the continued growth of digital collectibles. In March, Bored Ape Yacht Club creator Yuga Labs closed a $450 million funding round at a valuation of $4 billion. Its backers included Andreessen Horowitz, Animoca Brands, MoonPay and FTX.

### Polygon: $450M

In the recent bear market, one of the winners now in a stronger position is ENS. According to NFTgo statistics, ENS’s trading volume in the past 30 days earns them the top spot in the NFT market. The positive trend is also witnessed in several special name types such as "10k club". In terms of historical transaction volume, the total ENS volume has exceeded 80K ETH, ranking 17th. Therefore, it can be concluded that ENS has become, both in the short and long run, an important part of the NFT market. This article is aimed at discussing the current value of ENS and decentralized domain names and their future development.

# 1\. Ethereum Name Service

Ethereum Name Service (ENS) uses readable domain names to provide a secure and decentralized solution for on-chain and off-chain addressing of data. Here is a description of the official document:

*ENS’s job is to map human-readable names like ‘alice.eth’ to machine-readable identifiers such as Ethereum addresses, other cryptocurrency addresses, content hashes, and metadata. ENS also supports ‘reverse resolution’, making it possible to associate metadata such as canonical names or interface descriptions with Ethereum addresses.*

To sum up, ENS is mainly used in two scenarios, namely decentralized identity, and decentralized websites.

## 1\.1 Decentralized Identity (DID)

Decentralized Identity is a decentralized domain name case that has been agreed upon. Take ENS as an example, if you set the ENS name as the reverse resolution of the Ethereum address, you can directly access the wallet address through the ENS name. Current mainstream Ethereum wallets and DAPPs are usually compatible with ENS names. After logging into a DAPP, the ENS name will be exhibited. Operations such as transactions can also be performed through the ENS name.

Another neglected case is the content access address which is just like a traditional DNS domain name, which is described as a decentralized website on the official website of ENS.
