18-year-old Utah native Buppy. tells his own coming of age story while exploring a vast world of genres. With the Wonderland premiere of “genre-bending hit ‘Violence”’ in January 2021, Buppy. began to release his work to the public, immersing others into a world of his own. This year is off to an even stronger start with his latest releases landing on Spotify’s New Music Friday & Tear Drop. Buppy. is looking to further innovate with his audio and visual releases in new and creative ways as an independent artist through this collaboration release with two innovative leaders in the web3 music world - Glass Protocol and Decent.

Who is Buppy.?

Using music production as an outlet for emotional relief, Buppy. began composing and writing original songs at the young age of 12. Since then, his key focus has been on lyrical content, allowing listeners to step into Buppy.’s world of vulnerability and become familiar with his raw and honest storytelling ability. Buppy. is as much a visual artist as a musician, and thus he’s often found creating compelling, engaging visuals to accompany his audio releases.

Why Decent & Glass are Partnering

Together, Buppy., Glass, and Decent envision a world where all steps in the musician’s release process can be facilitated and bolstered on-chain. While no all-in-one method exists today, there are many great platforms that are working on bespoke pieces of the process. Buppy.’s coordinated, road mapped release between both Glass and Decent exemplifies ways in which musicians can leverage different web3 tools and platforms to fund, market, AND release new music - essentially everything a musician needs for a vital music career.

In this process, fundraising is made simpler, more customizable, and more equitable by utilizing Decent in place of a legacy record label.  Buppy. has chosen to auction off 35% of his song “Down&Low” for 3 years in the form of NFTs. Buppy.’s fans can now participate in supporting their favorite artist WHILE sharing in the success and upside of that song over time. All the more reason for those fans to go out and market Buppy. Furthermore, Buppy. will be releasing the music video for “Down&Low” on Glass, allowing him to disseminate his art while also earning upon it as a separate stream of income, and enabling some of that upside flow back to the NFT holders, collectors, and contributors that made the creative endeavor possible in the first place by buying the NFTs on Decent.

By using web3 instead of web2, musicians are able to be more selective in their release process - targeting only the things that they want to put time into and that they think will move the needle. This is in contrast to signing everything over to a label that would provide each service, even if unneeded.

“Down&Low” will go live on DSPs on Thursday, June 9th.

Buppy. and his team will then use some of the capital raised through the Decent NFT release to produce and film a music video for “Down&Low” that will be released on Glass.xyz on Thursday, June 16th. A portion of the revenue from the music video release will be put back into the “Down&Low” treasury from the decent.xyz release.

About the song

“Down&Low”, the third-coming single from Buppy.’s debut EP, ‘Cold Nights In Hollywood’, details the story of his father leaving his family when he was only seven and the emotions that accompanied that. Buppy.‘s raw take on songwriting takes on a new dimension in this record. The song feels like one big crescendo; as Buppy.’s energy builds throughout the duration of the record, the production follows. After the release of ‘Cold Nights In Hollywood’(single) landing Spotify’s New Music Friday & Tear Drop along with 100k+ first week streams, and ‘WTDWTS’ which features heavy hitter “Shy High” - Buppy. looks to continue applying pressure with this next single. Additionally, this will be Buppy.’s long awaited entrance into web3 - with an audio NFT release through decent.xyz and a video NFT release through glass.xyz.
