RANDOM SOUND COLLECTIVE (RSC) is a collective of music lovers who believe in the web3, and was founded to support artists who are willing to experiment with web3.
We are a collective who love music and believe in the web3.
Our members are music producers, musicians, entrepreneurs, designers, engineers, and others
We aim to realize a world where artists can create sustainably while experimenting with web3 enabled technologies and mechanisms such as Non-Fungible Token (NFT) and Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO).
What would happen if artists could express what they really want to express without any restrictions?
The world would become more creative.
With the Internet, it seemed that the middleman were being wiped out, but actually, the middleman have simply been replaced.
The RSC believes that the challenges in the music industry are as follows
Currently, most artists cannot make money from their music.
Only a few very famous artists can make a living from streaming, such as Spotify and Apple Music; according to 2019 and 2020 data, 90% of streaming revenue goes to the top 1% of artists.
If each artist were free from financial restrictions and could create what they wanted to express, the world would be filled with more diverse works.
Since music itself cannot make money, music production budgets have been cut. Production time and staff numbers are often reduced to a minimum.
As a result, artists have fewer opportunities to learn from talented staff, and they have to cut back on their talent because they have to make more releases for less income.
The truth is, we want to spend enough time on our creative work, and create it through trial and error.
the RSC aims to provide an environment where people can truly pursue their own work.
Increasingly, we are having to adapt our creative activities to platforms and trends.
For example, many songs are optimized for streaming and the chorus comes in one minute.
It is harder to try risky challenges, and we are doing only the ones where the results are easy to see.
The RSC will provide a structure and financial support that will allow artists to try seemingly challenging ideas.
Creator revenues on Ethereum have already grown to $3.5 billion in 2021.
In fact, in music NFTs, not only big-name artists such as Snoop Dog and Mike Shinoda, but also middle-class artists such as Daniel Allan and Ibn Inglor started to utilize music NFTs to build their own communities and backed their activities financially.
Music NFT is what a musician releases their music as NFT.
The musician creates the actual song and its source files as NFT and provides them to the buyer of the NFT; the buyer of the NFT gets ownership of the song and source file content itself. The buyers can also resell the music NFTs in a secondary marketplace.
Most current music NFTs do not include master recording rights, royalty rights, publishing rights, or licensing rights. (Exception Royal splits royalties from streaming revenues and sells them as NFTs)
Music NFTs will dramatically change the way we value music.
Right now, the evaluation metric is the number of plays on streaming services such as Apple Music and Spotify.
However, with music NFT, music is now valued in the same way as art.
I like this artist's work, so I'll buy it at this price. Music NFT is beginning to change the way music is valued and collected.
What artists should focus on is not the number of views or the number of fans, but whether or not they can build a community of dedicated fans who are also super fans.
Super fans support the artist's sustainable creative activities through the purchase of music NFTs. Daniel Allan succeeded to raise 50 ETH ($140,000 in market value on the day of the transaction) to fund the production of a new EP.
The most interesting point about music NFTs is that you can not only sell your music as NFTs, but also use NFTs to build new relationships with your fans.
Buyers of music NFTs not only support artists financially through the collecting of NFTs, but also communicate directly with the artists and contribute their skills to the artists' activities.
Through music NFT, you do not have to be wealthy to become a patron of an artist you like. By owning an NFT, you are in the same boat as the artist.
The RSC will do its utmost to support the activities of artists on web3 and to build sustainable creative activities.
In the near future, we will step up our activities, produce music, sell NFTs, and actively collaborate with web3 music communities.
