The Conde Ferreira de Setúbal School is the new home of Casa da Poesia. The space was donated by the União das Freguesias de Setúbal and will become the center of activities of this association dedicated to the dissemination of the works and poets of the city.
The assignment of the space was made official at a public ceremony last Saturday, January 31, 2015, at 3 pm, and was attended by the president of the União das Freguesias de Setúbal, Rui Canas, and members of the Associação Casa da Poesia de Setúbal . “We are here to fulfill another dream of both the poets of Setúbal and this association who finally have a house where they can live together, work and certainly make poetry leave these four walls for the city, for the country and for the world” , said Rui Canas.
The president of the União das Freguesias de Setúbal highlighted that the protocol with the association foresees “many more projects linked to schools, children and even the elderly, as well as people who do not have direct contact with poetry”. “That's why it will be a great challenge to take poetry to places where it practically doesn't reach”, added Rui Canas.
Eduarda Gonçalves, from the Setúbal cultural association, said during the ceremony that “this day will remain in our memory as an important moment in the life of Casa da Poesia”. “Throughout this time, we have always shown a great commitment, with a lot of dedication and with that motivation that you only experience when you dedicate yourself with love to a cause. This common cause is poetry”, emphasized Eduarda Gonçalves.
The inauguration ceremony of the new space also included the symbolic delivery of part of the literary estate of Maria Adelaide Rosado Pinto. José Eduardo Rosado Pinto, nephew of the poet and musicologist, officiated the delivery of the unpublished work that were recited at the meeting at the Conde Ferreira School in Setúbal.
The association hopes to preserve and publicize the collection of Maria Adelaide Rosado Pinto, “one of the most outstanding figures of Setúbal in the 20th century”. “It is an honor and also a challenge and a great responsibility for the Casa da Poesia that will certainly try to respond with all the commitment and enthusiasm”, said Maria Helena Matos on behalf of the Casa da Poesia de Setúbal.
The ceremony of handing over the association's new space also featured a musical moment by the Luísa Todi Choir, by the Setúbal Regional Conservatory and by the Luísa Todi Academy of Music and Fine Arts. Members of cultural institutions from Setúbal were also present at this meeting, including the Núcleo de Poesia de Setúbal, LASA – Liga dos Amigos de Setúbal e Azeitão, Associação Cultural Sebastião da Gama and Centro de Estudos Bocageanos.
