History

I have always been fascinated by the notion of federalization of power and involvement of local communities for effective performance of an organization or an institution; simply because it can fully harvest the human potential. Thus, when the notion of decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) became popular in the current blockchain technology paradigm, I was naturally hooked. DoDAO originated as an education platform, a one-stop-information-shop for the origin stories, business models, frameworks, governance, tokenomics etc. of all prevalent DAOs in the crypto world.

If we look closely, a lot of organizations around us are already operating like DAOs, like my local food co-op, many NGOs, and many of my city programs; without the use of blockchain technology.  One of the missions of DoDAO is to tech-enable such communities with the blockchain technology-like capabilities so that governance can be decentralized and the treasury can be maintained in a transparent way. 

Current Situation

Many of these DAOs are doing exceedingly well; attracting new members to join the discord server or telegram groups, voting for governance, allocating of the funds etc. Most of the crypto projects have a lot of money; with many blockchain projects keeping 20-50% of the treasury for the community. These projects want the community to contribute and earn rewards. Community members also want to learn and enter web3 space.  All the rewards that projects have to offer mean that they can work on what actually interests them. However, something is amiss. Discord servers or telegram groups have tens of thousands of members and only a handful of them are active. Even with millions of dollars in rewards, projects struggle to create an active/ participative community that has mutually aligned incentives.

While these challenges of misaligned incentives and poor participation are not easy ones to attack, however, I believe these can be significantly mitigated with effective onboarding efforts. Expecting everyone to participate might not be realistic, but with guided onboarding, platforms can increase the participation by at least 4 to 5 times.

With hundreds of new members joining every week, conventional one-to-one onboarding is not possible. Thus, we contemplated that a standardized onboarding procedure for incoming members could be a useful tool, which led to the formation of DoDAO, an onboarding platform for Web3. There is a lot of extant research positing the benefits of effective onboarding in terms of increased employee engagement, job commitment, long-term loyalty as well as decreased job stress and turnover (Byford, Watkins, and Triantogiannis 2017, HBR).  However, in crypto domain as opposed to traditional organizations, there is a complete absence of ‘official’ onboarding as an essential step. Since most of the crypto projects are seeking to grow at a fast pace, there essentially a lack of time, focus, as well as expertise to develop onboarding content. There is a lack of expertise in creating community-focused tasks for better integration. Also, there is the absence of a standard payout structure for contributors. 

Onboarding is more than just bringing new hires on the team; it means the successful integration of the new member into the community. DoDAO’s guided onboarding tool includes 1) a high-level introduction to the project, 2) information on ways in which new members can contribute, and 3) information on expected contribution rewards. Further, the tool makes sure that the user is going through the important information so that they don’t ask the same questions again and again. We also want to capture users' information so that we can reach out to them. 

DoDAO Onboarding Platform

DoDAOs onboarding platform enables DAOs to create interactive onboarding content in the form of guides. These guides are better than normal documentation in a number of ways; 

1. They are to-the-point and are meant to onboard users for a specific role or task 
2. Information is presented to the user in a piece-by-piece way i.e., in steps 
3. Guides have evaluation steps that force the user to go through the contents carefully  
4. Guide completion is tracked i.e., we know the user's wallet address, completion date, and score
5. Data can be queried to apply smart logic like-gating of discord channels, gating of product boards, and proposal voting

DoDAO White Labelling

Complexity is a prevailing constituent of blockchain world; and this complexity is further aggravated by the lack of information about various blockchain projects. As a result, Members need to use at least 5-10 different tools in their everyday workflow.

 DoDAO strives to provide an effective solution by offering white-labelling which makes it easier to embed DoDAO onboarding guides into their own web domain without prior technical knowledge.

This simplifies the procedure and ensures that the lack of technical knowledge doesn't become a hindrance in adding projects as when this process is undertaken the members don’t need to know about another new tool i.e. DoDAO

Onboarding, How To, and Level Up Guides

The primary objective of DoDAO is to provide comprehensive and holistic information to the interested individuals and assist them in gaining adequate knowledge pertaining to various Decentralized autonomous Organizations. The guides play a significant role in accomplishing this objective. Initially, the guides revolved around areas of contribution, incentivization and overall onboarding. DoDAO now plans to evolve the guides so as to diversify and cater to multiple fields. Hence, via the addition of these guides, DoDAO shall enhance the scope of guides.

How-To Guides

The emerging web3 is the future of the corporate world but is also accompanied by various challenges. The most significant one is the steep learning curve. The lack of information is not just observed in the case of onboarding, but it's quite challenging to find suitable information even for the routine tasks associated with blockchain, tokens, contracts, pools and transactions.

DoDAO’s guides aim to mitigate all such problems by providing an effective solution. We can have “How To” guides for the frequently inquired information. “The How To” guides shall be simplified, easy to understand and inclusive of all the relevant and required information.
For instance, we shall include various guides relating to the purchase of tokens via diverse blockchains, investing in DeFi projects, setting up of the MetaMask wallet for various networks, bridging the tokens to different chains, and withdrawal of money from the wallet etc.

Level Up Guides

It is commonly observed that adequate information pertaining to career advancements and growth prospects is available in the full employment scenario but in the Web 3 world, the major portion of information in this regard seems to be missing. 

The information and knowledge relating to the future path, growth opportunities, upcoming positions, and roles are usually absent in the case of decentralized projects. By enhancing the scope of the DoDAO guides and providing the levelling up information, DoDAO aims to assist more DeFi enthusiasts and appraise every one of the opportunities existing in this space for levelling up.

Future Features

Here is the list of features that we plan to add in the coming months

1. Discord Access - DoDAO, in future, shall include the feature of providing access to different roles and the protected channels after the completion of the guides.
2. Tokens- With the futuristic approach of rewarding the members and contributors, DoDAO shall introduce tokens. The step of tokenization shall serve as an effective incentivization scheme to award the concerned individuals.
3. Gamified Profile- The addition of gamification techniques including, badges and trophies shall not only provide a diversified outlook but also motivate the members to contribute their best!
