I'm sure everyone heard of AAA games, but have you heard of AAA multiplayer shooters powered by blockchain, creative modding and true digital ownership? Today we are going to introduce Shrapnel, a AAA-level multiplayer shooting game, which is also a new friend of Concept Art House.
Shrapnel, the world's first blockchain-powered first-person shooter (FPS) game, was developed by NEON's BAFTA and Emmy Award-winning gaming veteran team. Shrapnel provides a rich set of player creation tools that combine combat, creation, management and connection into a community where players own the platform and determine its future.
Previously, we’ve been thinking about a competitive, multiplayer FPS that players could mod and make their own. But the technology necessary to support the transaction volume and attribution complexity of such a game was out of reach.
Now, blockchain makes it all possible. Shrapnel’s vision is to create a competitive multiplayer FPS that players can mod and make on their own. Now, blockchain makes this possible by providing an approachable way to reward for time they spend doing what they love.
SHRAPNEL will be the first moddable AAA FPS game entirely on chain, using new capabilities to empower players to collectively own the game and its future roadmap. Blockchain provides an approachable system to earn real money — sell and trade, play and win, create and own. Finally, with the SHRAP token and a blockchain-powered game economy, gamers can have the opportunity to be rewarded for the time they spend doing what they love.
As the first competitive multiplayer FPS that enables players to create, trade, and truly own their player-created content on the blockchain, Shrapnel has the potential to be the next industry-defining FPS franchise for a massive generation of players and creators.
In Shrapnel, players are tasked with finding and extracting valuable resources, entering the The Zone as Operators for one of the MEFs. Many other operators are also vying for these resources in The Zone, resulting in a tense, high-stakes, competitive environment that encourages risk-taking and rewards skill.
In addition, Shrapnel has many advantages. In terms of ownership, for example, gamers can become the actual owners of game assets thanks to blockchain technology like smart contracts. Compared with traditional gaming, where developers own and control all assets; with the help of decentralized finance, developers can leverage the blockchain model to create a sustainable environment without the control of a centralized entity.
Shrapnel also features interoperability, the ability for players to use their own game assets across multiple games. The digital ecosystem will no longer restrict the use of game assets, but allow compatibility across different digital domains. On top of that, traditional games are centralized and controlled by developers - they require players to play by the rules. Blockchain games hand power back to the community, inviting players to make specific decisions about design, roadmap, and aesthetics.
Looking ahead, the gaming world is changing and Shrapnel wants to be a part of that change. Only by introducing true creativity, ownership, and community participation as the norm, will the blockchain gaming industry be able to achieve the way it is defined to work next.
Like Shrapnel, Concept Art House is constantly evolving and improving, and although we're not creating a metaverse, we're definitely going to be a part of it!
