We know it's been awhile since our last newsletter, but we wanted to let you know we haven't forgotten about you. In fact, we’re reaching out because we want you to be a part of the next phase of our growth.

Our goal has always been to help artists to achieve financial freedom.  We first did this via NFT’s, helping 30+ artists make more than $200k in NFT sale proceeds. Then the market collapsed. So we wen’t back to the drawing board to assess where to go next.

We know there’s A LOT of money in music, the problem is the artists don’t get any of it. The industry generates $40 billion each year, almost all of which all goes to the platforms and labels. The artists and creators who are the backbone of the industry get left behind.

Of the 8 million artists on Spotify, only 16,000 (.2%) make more than $50k a year. The average artist took home $650 in 2021, while Spotify made $11 billion. There are 50 million creators on Soundcloud. MIDiA Research estimates there will be 230 million artists making music online by 2030. The problem is large and only getting larger.

How will the industry respond? It likely won’t. For no good reason, many artists feel stuck with no place to turn.

That made us think. What if a platform transformed the artists into the owners? Would artists be able to capture the benefits once reserved for the label owners and platforms? And would this type of platform be valuable?

We think so. So we built Phlote.xyz 

The site allows music to be shared, edited, and remixed by a closed community, creating a collection of music that links the community together. By turning music into a team sport, we’re creating an opportunity for millions of artists to do what they love, access a like-minded network, and have a better shot at capturing the value created from their music.

In the process, we offer new standard for others to see and a groundbreaking experiment in collaboration.

There’s an alternative path to making money from music that we’re going to find.

Why are we so confident? Because the play is so simple. We simply have to make a lot of music on the site. That’s it. Each song that we make and release not only represents a new asset, but a new opportunity for something positive to happen for the community. Each time a song pops, the entire catalog grows in value. Each time an artist pops, everyone benefits. There has never been a music platform like this.

We have all the ingredients: the talent, the time, and the platform. Our job now is to bring it all together. We are sending this email to you and approx 250 other artists who we invite to join us on this journey.
