Large scale heavy rainfall continues in the South and cold air invades the north
May 3rd, 2022

China Weather Network News began yesterday (April 24). The “curtain” of large-scale rainfall in the south of the Yellow River gradually began. Heavy rainfall went online in Sichuan, Shaanxi, Chongqing, Henan, Hubei and other places, and the rain was strong in some areas; Today, heavy rainfall will further move eastward and southward, and Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Guangxi, Guangdong and other places will be affected. Local places such as Jiangxi and Hunan may have heavy rainstorms.

Today, the heavy rainfall in the South continues to “control the field”. The local heavy rain in Jiangxi and Hunan is accompanied by strong convection

Since yesterday, the heavy rainfall process in the south of the Yellow River has officially started, with strong rain in Henan, Sichuan, Chongqing and other places, and severe convective weather in some areas, such as southern Shaanxi, Southern Henan, Northeastern Sichuan, Chongqing, Eastern and Southern Guizhou, Hubei, Northern Hunan, Southern Anhui, northern Jiangxi, northeastern Guangxi and other places, and heavy to heavy rain in Nanyang, Henan, northern Chongqing, Southeastern Hubei, Xiangyang Heavy rain (100 197mm) in some areas such as Jiujiang, Jiangxi and Guilin, Guangxi. The maximum hourly rainfall in these areas is 30 98mm; Thunderstorms of magnitude 8-10 occurred in some areas in southern Chongqing, central and Northern Guizhou, southern Hubei, central and southern Hunan, western Jiangxi and eastern Fujian; Hail occurred locally in Central Guizhou and central Fujian.

Today and tomorrow, the heavy rainfall area will move further eastward and southward. There will be heavy to heavy rain and local heavy rain (100 ~ 180 mm) in some areas in the south of the Huang Huai River, the Jiang Huai River, the south of the Yangtze River and the north of South China. Some of the above areas are accompanied by short-term heavy rainfall, and there will be thunderstorm, gale, hail and other strong convective weather in some places.

Specifically, today, there is light to moderate snow or sleet in Northeast Inner Mongolia, northern Heilongjiang, eastern Tibet and southern Qinghai; There are heavy rainstorms in Eastern Henan, northern and southern Anhui, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Southeastern Guizhou, Eastern and southern Hunan, Jiangxi, central and Northern Zhejiang, Western Fujian, Northern Guangxi and northern Guangdong, among which there are heavy rainstorms in central and northeastern Jiangxi and eastern Hunan (100 ~ 130 mm).

Tomorrow, there will be light snow or sleet in northeastern Inner Mongolia, northern Heilongjiang, northern Tibet, southern Qinghai and northeastern China; Some areas in southern Hunan, central and southern Jiangxi, central and southern Zhejiang, central and Northern Fujian, Northern Guangxi and northern Guangdong have moderate to heavy rain, including local rainstorms in southern Jiangxi (50 ~ 90mm).

It is worth noting that due to the strong low vortex and low-level warm and humid air flow, the rainfall in some parts of the South may be extreme. The public should pay attention to the forecast and early warning issued by the local meteorological department and be alert to the possible adverse effects and potential hazards of heavy rainfall. In addition, Guizhou, Hunan, Hubei, Southern Henan, Jiangxi, Jiangsu and other places may have strong convective weather such as short-term heavy precipitation, thunderstorm, gale or hail, which should be prevented.

Cold air frequently disturbs the northern wind and sand, and the temperature fluctuates

In terms of temperature, it is expected that the cold air activity will remain relatively active before the end of April. From today to the 27th, the northern region of China will be affected by cold air again, and the temperature in many places may drop by 4 ~ 8 ℃. Among them, the cooling range in some areas of central and Western Inner Mongolia, northern Hebei, northern Shanxi and Eastern Huang Huai River may even reach more than 10 ℃. Not only that, today and tomorrow, Northwest China, central and northern North China and southwest Northeast China will also be disturbed by strong winds and sand dust. Sand blowing or floating dust weather will appear in some of the above areas.

However, before the arrival of cold air, most areas in the north can still be warm for one to two days. For example, in Beijing, today’s maximum temperature may reach 29 ℃, and the feeling of early summer will be full. However, by the 28th, the maximum temperature in Beijing will drop to 17 ℃, with a cumulative decline of 12 ℃.

Not only in the north, the cold air will continue to go south in the next few days, affecting southern China. It is expected that after the 27th, the cold air combined with rainfall will also bring significant cooling to the south. And looking forward to the later stage, from April 28 to 30, there will be cold air moving eastward and southward to bring about cooling. Generally speaking, the temperature in many places first rises and then falls in the last week of April, and the temperature fluctuates obviously in many places. The public in these areas need to pay attention to the approaching forecast, increase and decrease clothes in time, and beware of cold feeling.
