A solitary programmer sits in front of a computer screen, surrounded by lines of code that outline the architecture of a decentralized application (dApp). They envision a world where transactions are fast, transparent, and secure. However, before their creation can be deployed to the live blockchain ecosystem, it must undergo rigorous testing in a simulated environment. This is where the testnet comes in—a virtual playground where developers allow users to experiment with the DApp, then refine and stress-test their decentralized marvels based on these experiments.
Testnets are crucial environments for developers to test their projects before exposing them to the real-world dynamics of the blockchain. These testing grounds are similar to the mainnet but operate on a different blockchain, allowing developers and end users to experiment without any real financial consequences.
Being home to a myriad of campaigns, Galxe has provided a platform where users can explore several testnets. An example is the Linea Voyage campaign.
Scalability has been one of the major challenges in the web3 space. And this is what Linea aims to tackle.
Linea, a zk-rollup developed by Consensys, operates within the Ethereum blockchain ecosystem. Its primary goal is to address Ethereum's scalability limitations, empowering developers to build without high gas fees or slow transaction speeds while ensuring security. This initiative opens doors for enhanced development opportunities on the platform.
Equipped with integrations like MetaMask and Truffle, Linea allows developers to seamlessly integrate these tools from the outset. To ensure scalability, Linea rigorously tests its network to support partner activities and dApps at scale, preparing for the mainnet launch in the upcoming summer. Testing validates the testnet's resilience and resolves bugs before the transition to the mainnet. However, the challenge remains in attracting users to the network.
Leveraging Galxe's extensive experience in the Web3 industry, Linea collaborated to create Linea Voyage—an exploratory campaign within the testnet. This initiative familiarized users with the Linea ecosystem, aided the Linea team in validating and fortifying the testnet, and provided support for its imminent mainnet launch.
This collaborative effort, powered by a robust community involved 11 ecosystem partners, including Hapi, ThirdWeb, GoPlusSecurity, NFTs2me, GhostNFT, Bilinear, Zonic, Hop Protocol, Celer Network, Multichain, and Connext. These collaborations extended Galxe's wealth of experience to Linea network participants and enabled Linea to present a series of tasks with specific themes over five weeks. Users had the opportunity to score and accumulate points tracked on Galxe live leaderboard. Eligible users would be able to mint a commemorative “proof of contribution” NFT based on their position on the leaderboard.
With community and protocol growth rooted in Galxe's experience, all participants, regardless of their final leaderboard position, will be able to mint an open-edition NFT if the Linea testnet surpasses 30 million total transactions before the Voyage ends.
During the Linea Voyage campaign, 50 applications joined the program, over 5.6 million unique wallets participated, 50 million testnet transactions were submitted on Goerli, and 800,000 wallets claimed Sybil-prevention credentials. Also, the Linea Voyage campaign significantly increased Linea’s social presence within the community and educated users about the Linea Network and its potential. The campaign also provided Linea protocols with a resource for sustainable growth in the future.
The Linea Voyage campaign, a joint effort between Linea and Galxe, has been a huge success in addressing scalability challenges in the web3 space. The campaign surpassed expectations, recording 50 million testnet transactions and attracting 800,000 wallets claiming Sybil-prevention credentials. This collaborative initiative has also fostered community growth, increased Linea’s social presence, and equipped developers with a robust platform for enhanced development opportunities.
As Linea gears up for its mainnet launch this summer, the success of the Linea Voyage campaign stands as a testament to the power of collaboration, community engagement, and strategic testing in overcoming scalability challenges in blockchain technology.
About Galxe
Galxe, a Web3 credential data network, seeks to assist Web3 developers and projects in utilizing on-chain credential tracking for product and community development. The platform’s use cases encompass a variety of applications, including Galaxy OATs (On-chain Achievement tokens), NFT loyalty programs, gated communities, and customized governance.
At the core of Galxe’s ecosystem lies the GAL token, an ERC-20 utility token designed to be compatible with the Ethereum network. The token serves four primary purposes: governance, covering application module fees, facilitating transactions within the Galxe Oracle Engine and Galxe Credential API, and curating digital credentials. Through these functionalities, GAL token plays a vital role in supporting the network’s operations and enabling seamless interactions within the Galxe platform.
