DeGate : A Future of Decentralized Exchange (DEX)
January 31st, 2023

What Is a Decentralized Exchange (DEX)?

First of all, before diving into DeGate, it’s important to understand what a Decentralized Exchange (DEX) is.A Decentralized Exchange (DEX) is a type of cryptocurrency exchange that allows users to trade crypto directly with one another through peer-to-peer transactions, without the need for an intermediary. These transactions take place entirely on an online platform, often using smart contracts.

This is different from a centralized exchange, where transactions are typically handled by a third-party entity—such as a bank, trading platform, or even a government institution—that takes custody of users’ funds and manages the security and execution of trades between two parties.

So,what exactly is DeGate?

**DeGate is a Decentralized Exchange (DEX) protocol built on Zero-Knowledge (ZK) technology.**As a ZK Rollup, DeGate fills a key gap in the market by offering spot order book trading and grid trading within the Ethereum ecosystem—delivering a trading experience that feels similar to what you'd expect from a centralized exchange (CEX).

DeGate is a DAO-centric protocol, with its treasury fully governed by a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO). In short, DeGate is a protocol created by the community, for the community.

For those unfamiliar with it—that’s the basic idea in a nutshell.

Now, in this article, I’ll be sharing my personal experience using the DeGate DEX platform. Everything I write here is based on hands-on testing, supported by research from various sources.

I’ll break it down into several parts, so that readers can better understand the features available on DeGate—clearly and in detail.

Alright then, let’s dive right in.

A.User Assets

The User Asset section is where you can view your balance, check which tokens you have available, and access key features like Deposit, which allows you to transfer coins from your wallet into your DeGate asset account. You can also Transfer or Withdraw your assets from here. There’s a History tab as well, where users can view their full account activity.

When I made a deposit—as shown in the screenshot—I received a reward of 200 USDC and 200 USDT.But keep in mind, this is only during the testnet phase, which means the tokens are not real and are only meant to be used for testing the platform’s features. These rewards are not usable on mainnet, so don’t expect to cash them out—they're just for practice!

The deposit and withdrawal process was quite fast and smooth—just like what you'd expect from a good DEX. I didn’t encounter any issues worth mentioning.

B.Trade

Now we're getting into the trading test phase.Let’s be honest—just making a deposit without doing any trading would feel incomplete, right? *Hahaha.*Okay, let’s get started!

This was my first time trading on DeGate, and my initial impression was positive. The user interface (UI) looks clean and intuitive. I decided to start by trading the DG/USDC pair.

DeGate offers a wide range of trading pairs, which is great to see. It's clear the team has put effort into offering options that are both practical and appealing.

But here’s something users should note:When placing limit orders, you’re required to make a minimum order of 100 USDT or USDC.If you try to place an order below that amount, you’ll get a transaction failed warning—just like the one I’ve shown in the screenshot.

No worries though! You can still use the Market Order feature, which is quick and simple, allowing you to buy and sell efficiently without dealing with minimum order limits.

C.Mining and Grid Strategy

Apart from trading, users on DeGate can also participate in liquidity mining. And yes—this is exactly the kind of feature a proper DEX should offer.Instead of letting your tokens sit idle in your account, you can actually put them to work through this feature.

As shown in the screenshot, I gave it a try myself.

To use this feature, you need to have equivalent assets, with a minimum of around 105 USDT or USDC.These assets can be in the form of tokens or stablecoins, but both sides must be balanced for the liquidity provision to work properly.

To be honest, features like this tend to be less popular among traders when compared to direct trading tools. However, for long-term investors, liquidity mining is a great way to put idle assets to work and earn rewards passively.

My first impression of this feature?Pretty solid. Everything worked smoothly, and I didn’t encounter any bugs during the process.

CONCLUSION

Overall, DeGate is a solid DEX platform and definitely one to watch for the future.Compared to other DEXs, it already offers a wide range of features that go beyond basic swapping.

Oh, and one more thing: there’s a unique feature called "Exodus Mode" available in the withdrawal section. You can check out how it works through their Gitbook documentation. As for me—I didn’t try that feature just yet, since I wanted to focus on the core basics and keep things simple for now. Hahaha.

The first time I heard about DeGate was through Galxe (formerly known as Project Galaxy), since DeGate is one of their partners.Pretty interesting, right? You should definitely give it a try—especially now while it’s still in the testnet phase, so you’ll be more familiar with the platform when the mainnet goes live.

I personally tested DeGate on Windows PC using the Brave browser, but you can also try it out on mobile with your preferred browser.

Everything I’ve written here is based on my first-hand experience, and I’ve done my best to explain it in a simple and easy-to-understand way.If anything’s still unclear, feel free to visit their official social media pages or community channels—they’re very active and helpful.

And of course, don’t forget to try the DEX for yourself. If there are any errors in my explanation, I sincerely apologise.
