The Walkways of Alvor, the longest walkways in the Algarve and one of the greatest pearls in the municipality of Portimão.
The walkways are about 6 km long, and connect Praia dos Três Irmãos to the wonderful Ria de Alvor, one of our favorite corners of the western Algarve.
Between Praia dos Três Irmãos and the pier at Praia do Alvor, the walkways always run alongside the sea, along the dune cord, and provide walkers with beautiful views over the sea and the undulating dunes.
The total distance of the Walkways of Alvor is 6 km, but if you choose to go there and back, and decide to walk all the walkways that cross the area of dunes and marshes of the Ria de Alvor, you will have to travel approximately 12 km.
We started and ended the walk at Praia dos Três Irmãos (you can also start at Ria de Alvor) and went to the lighthouse at Praia do Alvor and from there we continued towards the estuary where we walked along the most emblematic walkways over the dunes and marshes. In total we added about 9 km and we did the whole route in three hours, taking it easy, stopping often to take pictures and enjoy the landscape.
Regardless of the choices you make, don't be scared by the distance as the route has no significant differences in level and there are several rest areas where you can stretch your legs while enjoying the wonderful views over the sea and Ria do Alvor.
Another advantage of the route being flat is that it makes it perfect for the whole family, even for those with little ones or people with reduced mobility.
