Movement & Flow

“Some people move. Some people flow. And I suspect the difference has something to do with patience.”

My yoga teacher just kind of said this during the middle of pigeon pose yesterday.

It really landed.

It led me first to think about the difference between movement and flow.

But then, later, it occurred to me that something else she had brought up during class was a somatic clue-for me, at least- as to when I’m moving versus flowing.

At the beginning of class, she had asked us to put our hands on our solar plexus, noticing its presence, and its sensation.

After a class full of literal twists and turns, she brought us back and asked us to feel it again.

I had totally forgotten that class started that way, but the difference was palpable…literally.

Since then, I’ve noticed the solar plexus more.

I’m aware that there’s either a softness or a hardness there.

Sometimes, it feels “full.” Sometimes “empty.”

And sometimes it feels like I just got pushed-albeit gently-there.

I wonder if the solar plexus is like the physical manifestation of our spiritual core?

I have no idea and I may just be making up the story, but like a body gyroscope, perhaps the solar plexus is a tool to let us know if mind, body, and soul are aligned.

When we’re flowing….
