I’m going to explore the next trends and markets for where I can best add value.
For over 25 years, I’ve made a career of finding new frontiers, aligning opportunities with my capabilities and passion, and then exploring them. Sometimes profitably.
For the past 7 years, I’ve been in crypto. When I started, no one had heard of Bitcoin.
Now, after nearly 2 years, my formal mission at RDX Works, supporting the growth of the Radix decentralized public network, has come to an end.
During the worst crypto bear market in history, we were able to:
drive 54 consecutive weeks of positive wallet growth (equating to 57% annual growth).
enable more than 8k developers to download and experience Scrypto, the programming language that makes Radix hum (up from only 154 the year earlier).
help jumpstart an economy that is already showing signs of tremendous life, with nearly 100k active accounts and over $26mm in volume...all before smart contracts (something that is possible because of Radix's radically different paradigm)
It wasn’t an easy assignment at all, but we did it.
Now, however, it’s time to take a step back and look at the broader horizon.
So, I’m going to figure out what’s next by crossing the river by touching the stones.
The first phase is research
I have built a list of “Proven Horizon Scanners”.These are the 30-40 people I have met over the course of my career who have demonstrated a consistent ability to identify non-obvious future trends.
Then, I am going to create a list of questions to stimulate insights from these people to help surface these non-obvious trends
I will then reach out to each person on the Horizon Scanners list, asking for permission to speak with them, either via phone, chat, or email
I will listen carefully during conversations and take notes
Write a summary blog post about what I learned, post it, and share on my blog and with past interviewees
What I hope and expect to emerge from this process are some patterns of opportunity.
If 12 people say “Plastics,” then that’s a pattern of opportunity.
That report, which I expect to have done in 6-8 weeks, will form the basis of Phase 2.
