Ömer Ileri, deputy chairman of Turkey’s ruling AK Party, said in an interview on Tuesday that Turkey’s planned encryption industry rules are mainly to ensure consumer protection, but also support innovation. Ömer Ileri, who oversees information and communications technology for the AK Party, met with crypto industry representatives, including legal experts and members of the media, to discuss the planned legislative package.
According to İleri, Turkey has ambitious plans in various technological fields such as blockchain and artificial intelligence. He pointed to initiatives such as Blockchain Istanbul and the Metaverse Forum proposed by the government of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as examples of the government’s interest in the blockchain field.
In January this year, the country’s Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek said that the government had almost completed technical studies on the encryption legislative package. Ileri said on Tuesday that conducting “legal research” on crypto-assets is important to protect consumers and promote innovation in the field.
