UNHCR: the number of people fleeing Ukraine has reached one million, eventually or as high as 4 million
April 7th, 2022

According to the associated press in Geneva, UNHCR said on March 3 that 1 million people have fled Ukraine since Russia began its “attack” on Ukraine about a week ago. Judging from the growth rate of people fleeing, this is an unprecedented escape in this century.

The report said that the figure from UNHCR exceeded 2% of the Ukrainian population. According to the statistics of the world bank, by the end of 2020, the population of Ukraine was 44 million.

The UNHCR warned that the escape was far from over. The agency predicts that up to 4 million people may eventually leave Ukraine, and this forecast may be raised. (compiled by / Du Yuanjiang)
