MUA Design Award  |2022-I

Hey, do you feel trapped in life?

No matter what time zone, world or system you’re living in now, it’s as if the entire human race is trapped in the recent pandemic, war, recession, earthquake and all the other dreadful things.

Maybe there are more terrible things in your life? Break-ups, isolation, reduced income, or maybe you just haven't traveled for a long time…

Bad times are like a snail chasing after you, or the Ginosaji (a guy who tries to kill people with a spoon)?

Maybe it won't kill you for a while, but one day you will detect the omen of a forthcoming catastrophe in your endless escape.

It’s been said that in this day and age, we think we’re human because we’re capable of love, but in fact it's only because we can select all images with traffic lights.

Life sucks, my friends.

Let's have some fun in the absurd world and create something real or whatever we want.

In this new space, perhaps at some point, you will briefly have the illusion that you can be the Creator—and you may even not feel the force of gravity.

You may have figured out the place I mentioned it above.

Metaverse

This is a term that has been around for a long time, but got hyped up in a flash, which I guess is one way to prove that human beings are breathless under huge pressure in real life.
Sorry I didn't find a cooler definition, so I’ll still call it “the metaverse.”

Leaving aside the evil tycoons who try to do the same thing under the guise of the metaverse, there is still a lot of territory we can occupy here.

Evidence 1: "Creativity is king here."

Land in the digital world can be created infinitely, and two million plots of land can be created out of thin air every hour if you want. This makes the landowners themselves no longer a privileged class. On the contrary, based on the change in relations of production, truly creative buildings and contents have become precious scarce resources because excellent creativity itself can not be infinitely reproduced. Here, 90% of the income from every business order goes to the creator, and only 10% belongs to those landlords who collect the rent.

Evidence 2: "No one has any qualifications or experience."

Forget the "norms" of the physical world. Here, you don't need to think about load-bearing columns, or rack your brains to hide firewalls, or spend a year making cardboard models for your boss in order to start drawing for a mechanical design, or sacrifice ten years of sleep to become a partner architect. We're all on the same page in this new place, where there aren't too many established rules and promotion systems. Whether you're a star architect or a graphic design intern, we all need to start learning how to make an interactive door and how to make your walls move like a mural in Hogwarts.

At this very moment, skilled architects in the metaverse can earn $20,000 for two weeks' work. Of course, this is only the average wage, and I think there must be architects who charge more, yet they don't disclose the figures and I don't want to blab.

Seriously, there's a lot of work waiting for you here, and creative people are in huge demand.

That's why you're starting to see a lot of architecture competitions in the metaverse.

We have been paying close attention to these competitions and awards (while we are still in the process of preparing the project.)

Let’s have a look at these prestigious competitions: the hosts, the co-organizers, the industry experts as award judges, the organizing institutions, the thematic roundtables, all bluff.

They have gone through the elaborate charade, and found some good works. These works are conceptual, futuristic, and metaverse-like, but in fact they can not immediately be converted into metaverse buildings.

In my opinion, if we're already in a world where we can deliver results quickly, why do we recognize excellence in videos themed after fake concepts fabricated by old-world experts?

We could just get on with creating something more practical and deliverable, by which I mean we can accumulate works in the competition and thus, create commercial value at the same time.

Yes, we have only one thing in common with other metaverse architecture competitions: a massive prize pool of the same category.

In addition, we are trying to explore a completely different form of interactive architecture competition: It’ll be more practical, equal, and everyone participates in and builds it.

This also has a lot to do with the reason why we found this organization. If you want to know who we are, you can click here:

Let me introduce you to our first competition:

A Bar in the Metaverse

MUA Design Awards |2022-I

Venue:

The venue of the competition is set in Decentraland, currently the most popular metaverse project, at specific coordinates are -51, 94; -51, 93; -50, 94; -50, 93.

There are four plots of land in total. You can go to the Decentraland website and enter the coordinates to have a look. It's like a field trip in the real world.

(Here is a friendly reminder for you to see a beam of light coming from the adjacent plot of land in pitch darkness, please be careful to enter. It is a wasteland. I groped around in it for probably ten minutes before I escaped.)

Theme:

This plot has been named as Never Drink Alone, so our theme for this competition is also set to be: A Bar in the Metaverse. In the future, some of the world's most famous spirits brands will venture here to host promotional events, so we expect this competition to be successful in creating the hottest bar in the metaverse. This also means that your award-winning work will immediately receive tremendous commercial exposure.

Competition content:

Contestants are required to submit their works themed after "Never Drink Alone" in a total five sections.

  • Week 1: The Stage|Get some attention
  • Week 2: Some drinking clothes | Wearable
  • Week 3: The Bartender| A guy to talk to
  • Week 4: Additional Set Pieces at Your Bar | Interactive properties
  • Week 5: The building of 「Never Drink Alone」

We understand that for many architects who are new to metaverse design, spatial design and modeling is not really a challenge. If they aspire to design practical metaverse works of great content, it is more important to understand and effectively utilize interactive code modules.

Therefore, we have divided the competition in this huge metaverse space into five sections. At the same time, we have prepared detailed tutorials and set up a technical support channel in the community, with engineers who’s in interactive gaming supporting multiple languages to respond to you questions online at any time. They will help you train yourself by competing, and create deliverable metaverse works to win prizes.

The winner of each section of the competition will get the permission to upload works on the MUADAO DISCOVER page.

Scoring mechanism:

This is a competition in which everyone can participate in public voting. When participants upload their works to the competition website, voting of different sections will be conducted by node.

Users participating in the rating process are divided into three groups:

  • MUA MASTER (composed of established architects who have already delivered commercial works in the metaverse)
  • Junior mArchitect (not eligible to vote in this round, and the winner of this competition will enter this group in the next MUA Design Awards)
  • MUA Initiator (anyone who wants to join the MUADAO community)

The three groups vote through their badges and different Badge has different weights, which we will publicize in details. We will also publicize the voting system code and data after the competition.

  • Voting of the first section starts: 7/05/2022
  • Voting of the second section starts: 14/05/2022
  • Voting of the third section starts: 21/05/2022
