Tutorial: Competition Section 1「The Stage」

In order to help you better understand the requirements of this section of the competition, we invited X-Lab Architects to create a Show Case for demonstration.

X-Lab is an IRL (in real life) firm composed of young architects, and as pioneers of the MUA DAO community, they are passionate about new forms of architecture and have been producing works in the metaverse for the purpose of teaching and demonstration.

We hope to provide reference to you guys by showing the construction process of 「Show Case」.

Section 1: 「The Stage」

The stage of a bar usually has some kind of disco lights or attention-getting devices. That's why we set the stage as a single section of the competition - we would like to encourage participants to take advantage of special effects such as lighting/laser when designing of the stage.

The following is the creation process of the Show Case shared by X-Lab Office.

Lighting effects:

1 Lighting effects of fixed vertices/edges/faces

Modeling in modeling software (blender/rhino/maya)—Adding light material to the glowing objects in Blender—Importing your model into DCL Builder

2 Dynamic spotlight effects:

Modeling in modeling software (blender/rhino/maya)—Adding self-illuminated materials to glowing objects in Blender—Adding animation to moving and rotating objects in Blender --- Importing moving and nonmoving parts into DCL Builder as a whole.

3D stage projection and large format displays

1 Video display

There are two different ways to display video in the scene. One is to stream the video from an external source and the other is to package the video file with the scene for playback. It is recommended to use the first one to stream video from an external source. Create a VedioClip object—a reference to a streaming URL or a path to a video file.

2 3D projection

Modeling in modeling software (blender/rhino/maya)—Animate skeletal meshes in Blender—Import them into DCL Builder (pay attention to the number of model faces)

MUADAO technical support has shared videos on how to control the number of model faces in the process of modeling. You can copy the link to watch them on TouTube:

The above are the notes shared by X_Lab.

The first section of MUA Design Awards |2022-I is now open for submission and voting. You can go to muadao.build to upload your work.

The theme of this round is The Stage|Get some attention. The submission deadline for uploading entries is June 13.

Please note that the MUA Design Awards has a simultaneous submission and voting system, which means that the earlier you submit your work, the more exposure your work will receive.

Note on submission:

  • Only MUA Initiator holders are allowed to upload their entries.
  • After uploading, the information of your entry cannot be changed.
  • Only one entry per competition section is allowed.
  • The entry cannot be deleted after the voting is opened

During the competition period, our community engineers who specialize in modeling and code interaction are always available to answer questions.

Good luck in the competition and winning your first glory in the metaverse.
