During the L2 Interop Working Group Call #7, OpenZeppelin, Axelar, and Espresso presented an overview of ERC‑7786, which proposes a unified API that enables applications to work with any message passing protocol across chains
The standard aims to bring together various cross-chain messaging protocols under a single, minimal, and lightweight API, enabling applications to communicate efficiently across different chains. This approach is set to simplify the development process for application developers, who can integrate cross-chain messaging without needing to modify their smart contract interfaces when switching protocols.
The framework also benefits protocol developers by allowing innovative verification mechanisms to be integrated without forcing existing applications to overhaul their interfaces. By establishing a consistent API for message passing, ERC-7786 opens the door for parallel development and evolution of diverse middleware solutions.
Moreover, plans are underway to ship adapters supporting various messaging protocols in the next 3–6 months, ensuring a broad adoption and adaptation of the new standard.
This initiative underscores Ethereum’s commitment to modularity and interoperability in the blockchain ecosystem. The measure is expected to foster rapid innovation and ease multi-chain integration challenges, ultimately driving the ecosystem toward a more unified network.
DeFi protocol Ethena and digital asset tokenization firm Securitize have announced the upcoming mainnet launch of their RWA-focused Converge blockchain, scheduled for Q2 2025. The new blockchain is designed to bridge real-world assets with decentralized finance by leveraging Arbitrum’s technology and Celestia’s data availability network to offer fast blocktimes and high scalability.
The Converge chain will allow users to pay transaction fees with Ethena’s USDe and USDtb stablecoins, providing a stable cost structure for on-chain activity. In addition, the project incorporates a Converge Validator Network (CVN) that requires validators to stake Ethena’s governance token, ENA, thereby establishing a security council to monitor and protect the platform during emergencies. Securitize CEO Carlos Domingo highlighted that the testnet rollout will commence soon, with the mainnet planned before the end of Q2.
The blockchain is built to support both permissionless decentralized applications and permissioned institutional products, integrating existing ecosystems from both partners to facilitate the growth of tokenized real-world assets in the DeFi space.
In Episode 6 of the Hirys Podcast, Jake from Irys and Srini, the founder of Beyond Network, explore the intersection of AI, blockchain, and gaming.
0xBeyond is building a distributed inference network tailored for web3 gaming and IP-heavy environments, enabling faster AI computations by distributing workloads across multiple machines. The episode highlights how Irys’ low-cost, verifiable storage and compute infrastructure underpins this vision, providing the backbone for high-performance, onchain AI services.
The conversation also dives into account abstraction, where dynamic smart contract accounts could replace rigid EOA structures, simplifying user onboarding and enhancing game mechanics in decentralized environments.
Plusminushalf.eth has announced Batua, a new smart account wallet developed as a shadcn/ui component by PimlicoHQ, designed to streamline decentralized application integration while preserving non-custodial security. Batua offers passkey-based accessibility, sponsor and batch transactions, and robust protocol support.
For its initial version, Batua relies on Kernel due to its passkey support; however, this choice constrains certain account creation features because signatures must adhere to a specific format. Early user feedback suggests improvements, such as seamless sign-up flows and potential multi-account support, in future releases.
The wallet’s design prioritizes user-friendly elements, including a fully customizable interface that can be installed locally, enabling developers to tailor the solution to their specific needs.
