If you have been following me on Twitter for some time, you should know that I am interested in Web 3. In fact, I just posted an article on Medium talking about — Web 3, Beyond The Hype a couple of hours ago.
This article is intended to raise funds for my trip to New York!
Who am I?
I am Brian Wong, I am a 20-year-old undergoing national service in Singapore. I am currently earning an allowance that allows me to support myself. In my free time, I create content and manage communities while exploring the web 3 space.
If you have not heard of Web 3, I created an article for newbies so that more people could start exploring it. You can read about it here.
Other than writing articles, I create social videos regularly. These are the 2 main types of content I create as an independent content creator.
The Purpose of the Crowdfund
I am looking to crowdfund my first solo trip to New York, US. Here are just a few reasons why I believe this is the right time.
My national service ends in May, and it’s time to concentrate on my career.
By travelling to New York, I get to expand my social and professional network. I would be using a portion of the funds raised to purchase two event tickets, NFT NYC and ETH NYC. I am also looking forward to meeting some friends that I made through the internet (Twitter).
What is NFT NYC?
NFT NYC started off as a small group of meetings in 2019 and has turned into the leading annual non-fungible token (NFT) conference for Web 3 enthusiasts.
Web 3 or NFT enthusiasts will assemble to discuss the biggest trends, projects and challenges facing the industry. In order to expand my knowledge of the industry, I plan to attend the events taking place this year.
What is ETH NYC?
ETH NYC is another major event in NYC that attracts web 3 enthusiasts. I hope to learn more about DAOs and network with other community leaders at the event since it will cover more topics than NFT NYC.
2. Learning to adapt to a new culture and way of life.
I understand that living abroad is very different from living with your family which is why I am also looking forward to it. It is a great opportunity for me to work on important life skills in a new environment while being overseas.
American culture
In my opinion, many major things happen in the US. I first discovered Web 3 through an American content creator’s newsletter and content that I consumed regularly is from the US too. Since I live in Singapore, I have fewer opportunities than I would have in the US.

Where the funds will go?
I have been saving some money however it isn’t enough to cover the full travel. I will be using the funds raised to cover the two event tickets, NFT NYC & ETH NYC, to cover the balance for my accommodation and other costs incurred during the trip.
In choosing to fund this crowdfund, you are giving a young person an opportunity to explore the world, attend his first web3 event, and advance his knowledge & passion for space.
I have also secured a job that’s waiting for me to complete my national service.
