Background
The MRV (measurement, reporting, and verification) system plays an essential role in international collaboration to combat climate change as it enables countries to meet international reporting requirements. However, there are four major problems with the traditional MRV solutions:
Ambiguity in the legal status of relevant policies and regulations
Unclear conditions for the content of the monitoring plan
Lack of consistency and harmonization in the accounting and reporting guidelines
Lack of information technology in the MRV system
Aiming to solve all these problems, Shamba Network was created. It is a digital monitoring reporting and verification (DMRV) system for small-scale projects.
Introduction
Shamba Network is working on a DMRV system for ReFi projects, especially those working at a scale that would be uneconomical to apply traditional MRV. Aside from the DMRV system, they also work on tools to put web3 and ReFi in the hands of farming communities.
The project uses modern technologies such as satellite data, geospatial analytics, machine learning, and AI to provide the information required for MRV by ReFi projects. Using automation and digital tools for MRV allows the project to reduce the costs of this critical service. The Shamba DMRV system is powered by a Chainlink-based oracle that serves ecological data on-chain.
Unique Features
The most innovative feature of Shamba Network is the DMRV platform is being built to be a cross-chain infrastructure that ReFi projects can use regardless of where they are made. In addition to that, the project is also leveraging satellite data, machine learning, and AI to minimize MRV costs.
Token
Shamba will launch tokens in 2023 to drive incentive mechanisms for the different parties providing data to the network. Details on this will be released at a future date. You can also follow their Twitter to receive the latest update:
Closing Statement
Shamba Network has the vision to enable people worldwide to participate in ReFi by radically reducing the costs of quality MRV services. The project aims to expand inclusion in ReFi, especially for the global south.
