Web3 fantasy designer Schieva and digital fashion designer Tokyo White International are collaborating on an original, culturally-inspired drop launching this October on Artisant, a NFT and digital fashion marketplace.

When I first heard about this collab, I felt an electrical excitement. I’m a massive fan of both of these digital fashion designers and have followed their work for a couple of months now.

I had the opportunity to get to know Schieva and how her cosplay-esque style is transferring into the web3 space (it blew my mind - read her feature here) and have found a comforting solace in Tokyo White International’s Spatial space where she showcases her Silver Pearl Collection (sometimes you’ll find me staring hours on end at the beloved gossamer hooded cape on display there).

Yeah that’s me, staring at it yet again (you shall be mine, one day).

Now, Schieva and Tokyo White are working together with Maja Labs to produce the Saka-Na collection. And I’ll most likely be standing for hours in front of that collection too.

When two cultural creatives collide

This is the first collab Schieva and Tokyo White will join creative forces on. The central rationale behind this digital fashion collection is the fusion of two cultures: Japanese and Indonesian. Each designer will bring forth unique elements from these cultures and translate them into digital fashion masterpieces.

“The design concept focuses on a koi-fish kite that is often on the roofs of Japanese people's houses and batik cloth motif originating from Indonesia,” they say. “Schieva always brings elements of fantasy and culture into every design, while Tokyo White always brings the impression of luxury. We hope that with the fusion of these two cultures, we can produce a luxurious and cultured design with fantastical elements.”

This mixture of artistry, mysticism and luxury ignited a desire for me to experience these patterns for myself. Think “iridescent cotton silk, jacquard fabric, batik and cotton”.

The natural hues of the digital fabrics mirror that of nature and the elements. I immediately felt a wave of soothing calm wash over me whilst gazing upon the tones and patterns.

A simple breakdown of the collection includes 2 sets of women’s clothing, 2 sets of men’s clothing and 1 set of unisex clothing.

“For the women's designs, expect dresses; the men’s clothing consist of shirts, pants, and a Japanese outer kimono; and the unisex designs are Japanese warriors' clothing,” Schieva and Tokyo White explain.

The collective have created their own avatar, who embodies the spirit of the collection, to model the looks. Plus, collectors of these garments will be able to have the pieces fitted onto a photo of themselves. Looooooove!

The heart of the collection

As mentioned earlier, Schieva is renowned for her intricate air of fantasy in her designs whilst Tokyo White is about the chic, sleek and opulent appeal. They felt their two digital fashion styles had the potential to effectively blend together and birth a new encapsulation of eloquence - and I share these sentiments.

“We both appreciated seeing each other’s work on social media and had a great connection from initial contact”, they say. “We both have Asian heritage plus love Japanese and Indonesian culture so it was a perfect fit.”

“We are both passionate about creating beautiful, high-quality digital fashion pieces. We also share similar goals in educating the world about the history and cultures of Indonesia and Japan through our collections.”
