On November 12, 1855, the Club Setubalense was founded, which was soon established in the Paços do Duque, current premises of the Civil Government. After January 30, 1926, he settled in the current building, built to accommodate him.
It was conceived by the designer Jorge Paiva Diniz, a municipal official and designer of many other buildings constructed in the city at that time.
This property is characterized by its simple and rigid volumetry, by the façade with a marked design and profusely decorative, testimony of eclectic and revivalist architecture, to the taste of the contemporary bourgeoisie.
It features ornamental elements of a neoclassical nature and facades that are different from each other, although equally exuberant, due to the decoration and mass work, of Baroque inspiration.
