Musings about Web3 and User Experience

I've been researching the Web3 space for some time. 💥 Here's my take on it - through the lens of experience. (And ... isn't experience everything? 😎)

🕸 As many might already know, the web3 ecosystem has the potential to revolutionise the way we interact with the digital world, from seamless payments and decentralised applications to sovereign identity. However, for this potential to realise, the ecosystem must see significant improvements in user acquisition and retention.

The big question is: How might we bring new users into the ecosystem and make them active participants? Answers to this question will be key drivers of growth and essential to the success of any web3 product or platform. The most obvious approach for me (of course 🤓) is to focus on the end-to-end experience.

So, where lies the crux? The web3 space is currently facing several experiences challenges, such as onboarding difficulties, user engagement, and the complexity of interacting with decentralised apps and services.

How can all this be improved? Well ... everything, from technology itself to architecture and token design, all the way to business models, will have to start listening to users. If we're serious about bringing this to the mainstream audiences, that is.

👨‍💻 Right now, tech and devs are leading the development of the Web3 ecosystem, and many exciting things are happening, don't get me wrong. However, if the space wants more users, we have to start with users. And I wonder ... can we even stop to take a breath and go back to the drawing board? Probably not.

❓ Ok... what can be done?

✨ Experimenting with innovative models like the F2O (Free to own/mint), enabling users to enter the ecosystems with unfunded wallets etc. can help solve some of the current user experience challenges and drive user adoption. I'll write about those soon.

✨But most importantly, we should actively seek inputs from other participants in the society, and include them into the development process. Sooner rather than later, if we want to create something that would benefit society as a whole.
