At 15:30 on April 16, a truck slowly drove into the Xiangfu nursing home at No. 99 Xiehe Road, Changning District, Shanghai, which was the first batch of materials issued by the rookie special warehouse for the elderly.
After parking the car, Chen Gang, a driver in protective clothing, opened the rear door and began unloading with the same “fully armed” nursing home staff. 500 bags of rice and 30 barrels of edible oil are enough for more than 400 elderly people in the nursing home to use for a period of time.
The truck driven by Chen Gang is a special vehicle for the elderly to assist the Shanghai Civil Affairs Department in transporting guaranteed supplies. The starting point of this truck is the rookie special warehouse for helping the elderly. Recently, the Shanghai Civil Affairs Department received 85 tons of rice and edible oil, which need to be sent from Zhejiang to nursing homes in Shanghai. At this time, a warehouse dedicated to storing and transporting materials has become a necessity. Therefore, rookies opened a special warehouse for the elderly in Jiading District, which not only meets the needs of civil affairs departments, but also greatly improves the transportation efficiency of materials for the elderly.
Just the night before, the first batch of rice, edible oil and other materials received by the special warehouse had been in place and processed through multiple disinfection procedures. The warehouse of more than 1000 square meters is full of rice and edible oil. Starting from the 16th, these materials will be supplied to more than 60 nursing homes in Pudong, Yangpu, Hongkou, Changning, Minhang, Fengxian and other districts. In the future, this warehouse will also be uniformly allocated by Shanghai Civil Affairs Department, with special warehouse and special vehicle.
“The epidemic prevention measures in the special warehouse are very strict. When we drive a truck in, we will disinfect the vehicle first, and the door will be sealed to prevent us from getting off, so as to achieve closed-loop management.” Introduction of Chen Gang.
During the unloading interval, the people in the nursing home sent a boxed lunch to Chen Gang. Chen Gang told reporters with a smile: “now everyone is very good to our drivers transporting materials. One of my colleagues went to do nucleic acid testing. As soon as he stopped the car, he saw the traffic police coming. He thought he had violated the rules. As a result, people saw him work hard and brought him a box lunch to eat quickly, and his tears almost fell off his eyes.”
Chen Gang and his four colleagues have distributed more than 300000 materials to Shanghai nursing homes and other communities and institutions. Working more than 12 hours a day, Chen Gang has not gone home for more than 40 days. The man, who is nearly 50 years old, usually only reports good news to his wife instead of bad news: “I told her I ate well, slept well and stayed in a good hotel. In fact, I slept in the car all the time and had to ask for some hot water to go to the trunk.” In the past, he would call his wife on video after driving every day, but recently he didn’t dare to call because he was afraid that she would see herself eating instant noodles in the car.
Half an hour later, the goods had been unloaded, and the staff of the nursing home began to kill the materials, which were then transported back to the nursing home. Chen Gang started the truck and was ready to rush to the next station. “Now let’s send materials to the nursing home. I feel a little honored. People look at me differently. Today, there are four waiting for me.”
