Why Fantom’s biggest NFT projects chose to build metaverses on Rove
September 16th, 2022

If you follow the Fantom community (or you’re a member), two things instantly stand out. One, it’s growing rapidly, and two, it’s continuously innovating. Just look at the incredible NFT artists behind Magicats, PortalHeads, and PenguinKarts thriving in the Fantom ecosystem.

One thing many of these NFT projects have lacked, however, is an FTM-native metaverse provider. To support the needs of their active and creative communities, they needed to bring their devotees together under one FTM-powered space.

That’s where we stepped in to help.

Unifying communities in 3D space

Fantom has long been on our radar. As builders of metaversal infrastructure, we seek projects with great technology and loyal communities to onboard them to 3D space. Inside the metaverse, NFT projects can offer greater utility, increasing the value of members’ NFTs**.**

However, project resources are limited. Communities can’t always find the time to build a metaverse from the ground up that meets their vision. That’s why Fantom NFT artists like Teens on Acid and Darth Fractals chose Rove’s virtual art galleries to exhibit their NFTs.

We reached out to the Fantom core team early on to discuss how we might help unify their community in a custom-built FTM-powered metaverse. We were invited to participate in events such as town halls and AMAs with the builder community to learn more about their needs.

While communicating with NFT artists on Discord, we got talking to Teens On Acid (TOA), or Joshua Thorsen (to use his real name), the lead artist behind ACIDVERSE. TOA wanted to host an auction, but we explained the benefits of building a metaverse exclusive to his community.

When we integrated the Fantom blockchain in June 2022, TOA collaborated with us to build the ACIDVERSE metaverse, overseeing colours, branding, logos, and other details. It was to be the first NFT-gated community in the metaverse, giving over 600 NFT-holders exclusive land rights.

Despite a few teething problems after launch, we listened to everyone’s feedback and implemented a roster of changes to improve functionality. To date, the ACIDVERSE community has 127 landowners who’ve minted 189 plots of land. More are due to join soon.

House parties in the metaverse

After the success of the ACIDVERSE launch, we’ve collaborated with over 20 Fantom communities to design and build customized 3D homes, NFT galleries, and other spaces. We now power tens of thriving and interconnected metaverses for Fantom users to explore.

As well as providing the infrastructure, we’ve also helped the Fantom community throw virtual dance parties in the metaverse. In a first-of-its-kind event, PortalHeads held a party for its community, featuring exclusive music by DJ Cava (also an active FTM creator).

PaintSwap referred PortalHeads to us back in May. Our community concierge, Stacy, met with the PortalHeads team to discuss what they wanted to do in the metaverse. They asked lots of questions about Unity, music, and 3D animation – some of which we didn’t support at the time.

The team hadn’t considered an NFT-gated community, but quickly saw how rewarding it would be to offer exclusive community events to NFT holders. They began their metaverse with avatars and outfits. Then, around a month later, we built the music functionality they wanted.

Finally, in mid-July, PortalHeads throw their dance party with music, avatar dance moves, a jumping pad, drone flying, and much more. Those who shared the best dance moves on Twitter won a price. Around 100 people attended the event. Since then, the community sold out of its initial run of 500 plots of land but will be adding more soon.

About Rove

Rove provides building blocks for NFT communities and creators to build, own and have fun in the 3D worlds.

We understand it’s not easy to build a metaverse from scratch, let alone make it thrive.

Therefore, we want to make it very easy for communities and creators to build their own virtual nations: create unique and immersive experiences, forge communities of like-minded people in interactive environments and exciting activities. Erect cities, host parties, have AMAs and fly through space together. Your world, your people, your rules.
