United Artists for Ukraine is a committed event that brings together contemporary artists who aims to engage for a Ukraine of democracy and freedom.
This is more than a charity auction : it is an artistic message of hope for a country in the midst of a war.
In May 2019, an unprecedented initiative saw artists, thinkers and gallerists come together to affirm their devotion to European ideals, values, and culture: United Artists for Europe.
The initiative gathered 30 world renowned artists such as Marina Abramović
, Elmgreen
& Dragset
, Jan Fabre
around Bernard-Henri Lévy
as well as The Hexagon Society to support European culture. The original idea was to support European cultural initiatives through a charity auction hammered by auctioneer Simon de Pury
and hosted by galleries Thaddaeus Ropac
in Ely house London. The United Artist Europe project represented a milestone - a moment when artists decided to be influential and engage ideas not only through their work, but also through their actions.
Three years later, war has tragically returned to Europe’s doorstep. This war has torn apart Ukrainian cities, crippled the Ukrainian economy and created a vast humanitarian, political and social crisis. Western governments and indivi- duals have reacted with immense solidarity with the Ukrainian nation, but little has yet been done about the tragic destruction of Ukrainian culture.
With the support of Crytpo4Arts, young artists will create cards and following the gala dinner, a special crypto event organized by Crypto4Arts will take place where the entire collection will be sold.
Each project will carefully be selected for its relevance and donors will receive for their donation a unique NFT-powered Project Card designed by one of our Artist collaborators. This card will entitle the cardholder to a unique individual benefit related to the project that they support.
The project card will have a market value and can be sold onward to a third party, with the view to make it more valuable and therefore increase the amount donated to Ukrainian projects.
United Artists for Ukraine initial goal is to help cultural institutions and cultural projects destroyed or disrupted by the war and to build up new avenues to support Ukrainian talent through the funding and showcasing of their projects on the international stage. Through an online auction during a gala dinner in the south of France during the summer 2022 we will raise funds for the benefit of established and up and coming artists, writers, film makers, illustrators and designers. The funding will also help run the physical infrastructure of Ukrainian heritage institutions (museums, galle- ries and cultural centres) which have been affected or totally destroyed during the fighting.
